Hi! I am 8 weeks today and have been experiencing intense nausea at all times, I feel weak and exhausted. Not able to work. Even certain colours and smells make it worse, all I can do is lie down with my eyes shut. So grateful to be pregnant but would love to know if anyone has had this and it has passed or if they found anything which brings relief.

You poor thing - that sounds terrible!

Could you go to the drs to see if they have anything to help?

Nclktnntt · 02/07/2023 12:20

@Jujulouise - tiredness is so hard this time in your pregnancy, my tip is don't let yourself get hungry, try eating little and often, dry things like biscuits or breakfast bars were my saviour early on. Most nausea eases around week 11-12. If you can't even keep water down, speak with your doctor or midwife.

DustyLee123 · 02/07/2023 12:31

I found sipping, not drinking just sipping, Coke when I felt nauseous helped.
And try bland dry foods like crackers and very small pieces of toast.
Litttle and often tend s to keep it down better.

I'm 6 weeks and have had this for about a week. Got so bad I couldn't go to work. Dr prescribed tablets which take the edge off.

Jujulouise · 02/07/2023 14:00

Thank you!

What did they prescribe you please?

I had it with all mine - had full on hyperemesis with three of them , however with my first two it eased around 12 weeks - I found flat coke helped, just sipping gently and travel sweets to suck on .. try to nibble blander foods rather than go a long time without eating as that definitively makes it worse

Rockschooldropout · 02/07/2023 14:03

I was prescribed cyclizine in my last pregnancy which allowed me to just about function , they certainly helped take the edge off

Look at the charity Pregnancy Sickness Support for help, they have lots of resources about what to say to medical professionals and the types of medication you can have. They also have a helpline.

Un7breakable · 02/07/2023 15:53

@Jujulouise Prochlorperazine

Yearsandyearsandyears · 02/07/2023 15:56

That's sounds exactly like me. All day, every day, until about 10 weeks when it gradually got better then went completely at 20 weeks. I got signed off work for a month in the first trimester, I couldn't even get out of bed. It was the worst time of my life so I truly feel for you! But it will pass. Just lie down in bed all day if that's what you need. Nothing else worked for me - not even prescription meds. It sucks.

elliejjtiny · 02/07/2023 16:33

You poor thing. I had it bad with my eldest. I was throwing up 20+ times a day from weeks 7-11ish but either it calmed down a bit after then or I got better at knowing what helped. I found sucking on ice helped, eating little and often, eating before getting up and avoiding dairy. Some people find that medication helps but my midwife said you can only have medication if you don't wee at all for 24 hours and I never got that bad.

Un7breakable · 02/07/2023 17:38

@elliejjtiny in my case I got medication just because the nausua got so bad it was affecting my ability to work. No issues with peeing or dehydration. Only a few episodes of sickness. I think some doctors are more conservative than others. Pregnancy sickness support has excellent info on treatment.

I'm currently 13 weeks, experienced very bad nausea and sickness since around week 7. I've been signed off work since then as I couldn't work. I've lost a stone, and feel weak and dizzy when I stand. My blood pressure is also low and had ketones in my urine.

Nothing I tried worked, sickness bands, ginger biscuits, sipping fizzy drinks etc it's all lies! If one more person tells me to try a ginger biscuit I will throw the effing packet at them. 😅 I have no appetite, the thought of food makes me sick, the smell, even talking about food makes me sick. I can't cook, or prepare food.

I've been prescribed Cyclizine, which is a antihistamine. GPs usually give you this one first. It didn't do anything for me other than make me very tired. I was still being sick and feeling sick 24 hours a day.

Then I was prescribed Metoclopramide, an anti sickness drug, but that didn't work either.

I have just been given Ondanestron, another anti sickness drug now I'm over 12 weeks, only taken it for a day but I haven't been sick yet. Still nauseous though.

Most people say it eases between 12 and 16 weeks. I'm really hoping it does.

I know it's hard but try to drink water as much as you can, don't bother trying to eat big meals, eat whatever you can manage in small amounts. I'm currently only eating cheesecake and croissants.

Blondeerror · 02/07/2023 22:43

I’ve also had pretty bad sickness, would recommend ritz crackers the plain salty ones that come in a box. They are small enough that you can eat it fast when you really don’t feel like eating but plain enough to be fairly inoffensive when you feel nauseous.
i seem to have lost the feeling of hunger whilst being pregnant, it seems to present its self as nausea which is horrid.

Jujulouise · 04/07/2023 15:38

I’ve been prescribed some prochlorperazine so hoping that helps

I’m in a similar boat, trying all the bland foods but it’s hot and miss. The only thing that has helped has been upping my protein intake. Other wise I wake through the night needing to eat and at this point I’m struggling to face the crackers and rice pudding combo at 3am. Good luck!

Jujulouise · 05/07/2023 19:32

I get hungry in the night like you do. The anti sickness pills didn’t work at all. Really looking forward to this passing

Totally agree, everyone says have you tried ginger and I pretend it’s such a helpful idea 😂 of course I’ve tried ginger. I’d eat a leather boot if google said it would help the nausea pass for a second.

Stemetil didn’t work for me - they should be able to give you cyclizine if that doesn’t work

Mamai90 · 06/07/2023 00:05

I'm 7+4 and have the all day nausea, I also have a 19 month old so I'm getting very little rest and when I do rest I feel so guilty, I know my DD senses that I'm different. I have no energy, I few times I've felt really worried about this because it feels like there's something seriously wrong with me. I'm normally a very active person and even showering is a massive effort or putting on a wash. I was anemic in my last pregnancy in the late stages and I felt very ill and weak even though I wasn't severely anemic, I was much more anemic after I'd given birth but I felt right as rain! I seem to be really sensitive to even borderline iron in pregnancy.

I've been taking two iron supplements a day but they are making the nausea even worse but when I tried to cut down I'm even weaker and can't catch a breath!

I got cyclizine from the doctor which helps a little but made me more tired. Eating ice lollies has helped the nausea too and is getting more fluid in me which is a plus.

Let's hope this doesn't last long for us!

😂 omg this was my mother in law. She then bought me a huge chunk of ginger and then used it to make tea for herself, but not for me, in my home 😂 I let her get on with it and went for a lie down. ginger is not the miracle at all is it?

im also struggling with the prenatal vitamins. Took them daily in my first pregnancy but can’t keep them down in this one. Midwife says it’s fine to just take the folic acid and vit d combo one as my body should have some stores built up but I feel so guilty! Don’t believe people who say the gummies are easier to handle, they get stuck in your teeth 🤢

Jujulouise · 09/07/2023 19:06

Now I’ve got vertigo. I can’t wait for the day I’m able to get out of bed. I had no idea pregnancy could be so horrible.
