I am 37 + 4 and in absolute agony! Of course, there’s no way of conveying this without looking like a real drama llama so am still having to do everything Hmm but I’m so so fed up and in so much pain - help! 😩😩

Yes but it can reappear if you are not mindful of your back when contorting yourself putting baby in car seat 😭.

There are exercises with a foam roller that can bring some relief along with heat pads, hot water bottles and gentle exercises I had a miracle physio.

Hope you get relief soon.

Sob - I have a toddler, so no chance! Sad

I am a desperate woman.

After you have the baby I would recommend physio and/or yoga.

Pregnancy can leave you with an habit of anterior pelvic tilt (sticking your bum out) which puts more pressure on your back. There’s lots of yoga YouTube videos on anterior pelvic tilt. You could probably do some of the exercises now to try to relieve it a little. Some might be more suitable post-birth.

I doubt it to be honest - I’m not famed for my flexibility at the best of times Grin

Yes, mine disappeared completely after the birth and, 18 years later, has never been back. Good luck, I remember the pain and how miserable it felt.

Summermorning · 02/07/2023 08:55

I’m actually ready to kill my entire family Grin I hope so!

Mine went as soon as baby was born and only came back when I was pregnant again, but went again when baby came.

OneStepOneStumble · 02/07/2023 09:04

I remarked to my family that I felt better the day after birth than I did the entire third trimester. Yes, my sciatica disappeared along with the general weight of pregnancy. Good luck OP.

Also on your previous point- I have a toddler too and could lift her post pregnancy as normal and the back pain has not come back

It’s awful, isn’t it? I seem to have escaped it first time but in this pregnancy my entire left side is so painful, even my ankle. I don’t think anyone has a clue how much pain I’m in and to be honest I feel like they think it’s just a bit of an ache when actually I’m in agony! Sorry, I’m moaning on here because no one else to moan to but so fed up.

I am supposed to be having an elective section but no date given yet and I think the hospital will just keep stalling until I’m 40 weeks or go into labour naturally Sad

For me it went after birth and then came back in second trimester of my second pregnancy. Went away again after birth. It is excruciating, you have my sympathy. If you are 37 weeks though you are well within your rights to be getting your partner to support you a bit more- with or without sciatica! Hope you get your section date soon.

Summermorning · 02/07/2023 09:21

I think he means well but he tends to do that man thing (and sorry but I’ve never known a woman do it) where endless jokes are made and I’m really ready to scream with it.

Yes it completely went. I was basically paralysed when pregnant and now I'm 100% fine.

I didn't do any post baby yoga or physio and I have a toddler to grapple with. Good luck op.

gmailconfusion2 · 02/07/2023 09:39

Mine by the end of pregnancy meant i couldn't move out of a single position, ended up admitted, being given oromorph. Issues in labour due to it, as soon as she was out I was walking normally, all that pain had gone.

Lovebeingamummy2 · 02/07/2023 09:55

Hi OP I had it with all three of mine with my first two it went after birth no problem but since my third now 18months old I find if I do too much e.g on my feet all day loads of walking/lifting/ cleaning etc then the pain can creep back in. I hope your doing ok and I hope it does go away for you once you have your baby xx

Georgina125 · 02/07/2023 10:08

I had horrendous sciatica with my DD from 23 weeks. After my c-section, it was gone. She's 6 months now and I can only get the odd twinge (think it's related to my endometriosis, which is currently being held at bay by the mini pill). I intend to start back strengthening exercises when I get my backside in gear.

MamblingOn · 02/07/2023 22:34

I was in agony but it went once the baby was born, maybe a bit of a twinge for a few weeks but then nothing and I haven’t done anything about it and have a 3 year old to wrangle too.

My only tips in the meantime would be one of those giant long double sided pregnancy pillows for sleep and a tennis ball in the lower back leaning against a wall during the day.

Mytholmroyd · 02/07/2023 22:43

I had it with my first three and it was terrible - you have my sympathies! But yes, disappeared as soon as I gave birth.

With my fourth, I had a brilliant female consultant and I mentioned it to her as it had just started and she sent me straight away down the corridor to the acupuncturist - a chinese lady who was working in the maternity unit. I had never had acupuncture before (or since) but it stopped it in its tracks and I had the best pregnancy ever - no pain!

Wouldn't have believed it if someone told me it would work!
