Majorly angry with the ward I'm on!!!

Been on this ward since Thursday. I am 41 weeks.

Pessary didn't work.
The first gel didn't work.
I refused the second gel as I thought it was a waste of time.

I requested to get my waters broken however my waters naturally broke 10 minutes after telling the midwife.

It's been 14 hours since my waters broke baring in mind they are non stop. Including I lost my fat mucus plug straight after my waters broke.

It's been handover and the midwife's have seen every person on my floor and left me out 😭 I've not seen anyone all day!!! Everyone on my ward has had a pessary or a gel.. surely I'm high risk if my waters broke and it's nearly 24 hours!!! Just feel a bit left out tbh not a nice feeling.

No contractions yet either. Just feel very emotional

My waters broke 31st Dec and dd was born 3rd Jab - hospital left me ages! Kept telling me it was okay

GG1986 · 01/07/2023 23:00

Has it been 14 or 24 hours since waters broke? If 14 then its OK, I had 33 hours between waters going and giving birth. Ring your buzzer and tell the midwife they missed you out on the rounds and you want to know what the next steps are as you are feeling anxious. X

highheavenn · 01/07/2023 22:53

You've misunderstood what I said-

I had the pessary Thursday.
I had the gel on Friday-
Last night (Saturday) I declined the second gel because I was so so sore and asked for my waters to be broke and put on the list....

10minutes after I declined the second gel my waters broke naturally.....

Are you not in the UK? At it is Saturday today…. Last night was Friday. Or was it in the middle of the night? If you want professional advice, please use your buzzer and speak to someone

birdywillow · 01/07/2023 23:05

I had a very similar experience. I had the pessary which broke my waters after a few hours but did nothing else and I had to wait 8 hours to go to the labour ward for the drip. I hardly saw a midwife in that time, only when I had to push my buzzer. They never explained how long you could be left with broken waters, never came to check me or the monitor I had on to see if baby was ok. I got so upset and emotional at one point that my partner went and got a midwife to come and check me and explain a few things but otherwise we were just left alone

Parkandpicnic · 01/07/2023 23:06

They do aim to start inducing labour 24 hours after waters have gone if broken at home but as in hospital for induction they would look to get on with it when they can. They need to have a room and midwife free to give one to one care before they can progress further if they’re looking to put you ok the hormone drip and the availably of that will vary on labourers coming in, the progress and complications current patients on the labour ward having plus any labourers/emergencies going up from the ward. Also the level of urgency compared to you of other ladies waiting to go to the labour ward to have their inductions progressed

Brightredtulips · 01/07/2023 23:09

They're waiting to see if nature takes its course. Theres no need to buzz you won't have been left out. You won't be left longer that 24 hrs. No point in gel or pessary now. You will be given syntocinin drip to get contractions moving, but better if they start naturally as can be tricky to persuade nature do do something its not ready for. Waters breaking usually but not always start the contractions because there is space for baby's head to move down and stimulate contractions, pressing on the cervix.
Try not to worry. I know its easier said than done.

Uurrjb · 01/07/2023 23:10

So no one checking on you? Checking regular movements of baby? Are you eating drinking going to toilet?

at handover the new staff didn’t introduce themselves?

suspiciousmums · 01/07/2023 23:28

Hand hold op! My waters went and they left me to it as they were “busy on the ward”, I didn’t get moved to Labour ward until 30 hours post them breaking and ended up both me and my baby septic and a c section at 33.5 hours. The Guidelines at my hospital at the time stated baby should be born within 24 hours of waters going but they were short staffed, so definitely ask to speak with a midwife and find out their plan and not let them fob you off.

K37529 · 01/07/2023 23:29

If I where you I would try and get some sleep as it sounds like you've had a rough few days, and with a bit of luck you'll wake up with contractions. Or if you dont think you'll sleep you could try get things moving by walking round the ward x

Milkand2sugarsplease · 01/07/2023 23:35

Id be grateful of the peace for now because when it all ramps up you won't have a second to think. Get some sleep in, they'll be in when they need to. Honestly, labour can be the longest, drawn out affair ever. Knuckle down and get through and look forward to those baby snuggles.

Yellowcakestand · 01/07/2023 23:37

My waters broke on a Tuesday and hospital sent me home to return Sunday.

Legoroses · 01/07/2023 23:47

You'll need antibiotics if you go over that 24 hours from your waters breaking. I had a slow waters break that was missed/mis diagnosed. My baby was hospitalised with an infection which they thought was due to that initial period of waters having gone.

Do recommend walking about! And for 2nd birth an amazing midwife gave me the mother of all sweeps when I went in after another slow waters break and I went into labour very promptly!

Good luck OP.

NoIncomeTaxNoVAT · 01/07/2023 23:47

Please make sure you ask about antibiotics if your waters have broken but your contractions haven't started. My waters broke and i was left to myself with no antibiotics or anything. Contractions started 12hrs later and DD was born another 12 hrs later. But i didnt know that i was GBS positive, DD caught sepsis during the labour and ending up spending two weeks in NICU. Obviously thats not to say it happens to everyone, but easily prevented with antibiotics so worth a conversation with the midwife.

SayHi · 02/07/2023 00:17

You’ve not been checked on for 24 hours?

I’d definitely ask if someone can check on you as it’s been so long and then try and get a good nights sleep and things may move quite fast tomorrow and you don’t want to be exhausted before it even begins.

ThreeLocusts · 02/07/2023 00:19

OP seconding the advice re antibiotics. I had this situation with 2 babies, waters broke but no contractions. Births were in US and Canada, and they were adamant that I needed to be induced before 24 hours. Gave me IV antibiotics too.

Everything was fine in the end though. You're almost there!

Kiwiandstrawberries · 02/07/2023 00:23

Speak to midwife to ask for a plan..good luck.X

Coffeeandcards · 02/07/2023 00:42

Try and have a walk around OP, see if you can get things moving.

Nepmarthiturn · 02/07/2023 02:21

God, maternity care is shocking!!

I hope you are ok OP.

Definitely buzz them and tell them you want a proper care plan put in place. It's ridiculous to not even check in with you kr examine you or discuss with you what the plan is, if things don't progress soon on their own.

MustYou · 02/07/2023 05:55

morelippy · 01/07/2023 22:17

There's nothing else for them to do though... just wait... if OP needs them they're there to be called..

Then they should say so. But I very much doubt that they shouldn’t be doing observations. Or at the very least communicating what the amended plan is.

allgoodthings84 · 02/07/2023 08:40

I would be wanting to know what the plan is at least.

when my waters broke I was booked in for induction the next morning (24 hours later) and was sent home so wasn’t checked on in that time just told to ring back if anything happened. I went into natural labour 2 hours before my induction time. The difference is I hadn’t already been induced (which is why I was sent home) so in your situation I would definitely want to know what the plan is going forwards.

ireallycantthinkofaname · 03/07/2023 00:36

How are you doing OP? This thread came up in my feed yesterday and i keep wondering about you. Hope all is ok x

Sissynova · 03/07/2023 11:23

They will have just been waiting to see if you started naturally after your waters broke. If your waters broke at home you wouldn't be having anything done 14 hrs later so it isn't really any different because you happen to be in a hospital already.
Hopefully it has all moved on by now anyway and you have had or are close to having baby.

ireallycantthinkofaname · 05/07/2023 20:51

still thinking of you OP, hope your little one is here safe and healthy now
