Hello.I was due on Thursday and my waters broke yesterday all of the living room rug.Went MAU and they told me tongo home and I will most probably go into labour spontaneously. However I have no contractions or pain anywhere. What do I do in this situation?Do I go back to the hospital? They put some info on my badger notes but I can't see anything for lobe or money. This is my second baby BTW.Thank you.

They should have told you to back in to be induced if no contractions within 24 hours as once your waters have gone there is a risk of infection. You should phobe triage now and go back in if your waters broke on Thursday!

Yahyahs22 · 01/07/2023 06:47

What!! They should be keeping you in if your waters broke

Sanch1 · 01/07/2023 06:47

Sorry you said yesterday but still phone them as it's still a day later.

JustKeepSlimming · 01/07/2023 06:48

Yeah, go back this morning. Usually they induce labour if 24 pass after your waters break.

GreenMini · 01/07/2023 06:50

My waters broke and I went home with an induction appt for 24 hours time and instructions to keeep an eye on my temperature. Contractions kicked off about 12 hours later and the baby was born by the time the 24 hours were up.

Codlingmoths · 01/07/2023 06:50

go back. You should be back in hospital within 24 hours as the infection risk climbs once your waters break.

Luckydog7 · 01/07/2023 06:52

Its induction if 48hours have passed not 24. This exact thing happened to me three years ago with dc2. Try to trigger contractions. Walking, stair climbing, if you have a beast pump that can work. If not you need to go in. I ended up being induced at 54 hours after waters broke.

bobblyjob · 01/07/2023 06:53

They would usually give antibiotics if you are 24 hours in and no baby yet. They should have told you that! Give them a call and they will make a plan

mum11970 · 01/07/2023 06:55

They’ll normally try and induce you within 24 hours due to a risk of infection so call them again now or go straight in. I went a bit over 24 hours with one of my children as they were really busy but it’s best practice not to due to the risks of infection. May be worth just rocking up as you do need to be admitted. I was questioned as to whether my waters had really gone or whether I’d wet myself when I went in, as if I couldn’t tell the difference.

UsernamePain · 01/07/2023 06:55

Agree, call them. I had to go back in 24 hours later if my contractions hadn’t started to start induction. This was last October.

Diddykong · 01/07/2023 06:55

Yes you'll need to go back in and likely induction. Ask for an epidural the second they mention anything about the drip.

Not true. They send you home for 24 hours then you have to go back if your contractions haven't started.

LovelyNanny26 · 01/07/2023 07:12

Thanks I will call them now. Will they keep me in if 24h passed and no contractions started. With my first everything happened so quickly.

I’d echo what others have said. 24 hours and they should have told you to come back in. I went into spontaneous labour 20 hours in so might still happen for you. I’d call just to confirm the plan. When you go in plan to stay till your baby has been delivered.

aintnospringchicken · 01/07/2023 07:34

I would call them if you've not felt any contractions 24 hrs after your waters broke.I had a similar situation with DC2.My waters broke but no pain or contractions .I was examined at the hospital and told to go back in 48 hrs(this was 30 yrs ago) and I would be induced. When they examined me before induction I was already 4cm dilated but no pain or contractions so they moved me to the labour ward where DC was born an hour later with no pain relief. I got to fully dilated with no pain and only felt contractions when I had to push DC out.

sashh · 01/07/2023 07:38

You need to contact the hospital ASAP.

Solsticesummer · 01/07/2023 07:45

This happened to me in feb

I went in for an assessment, told to go home and return in 12 hrs if no contractions (it was night time so to return in the morning).

on return I was put on an antibiotic drip to wait and see what happens… still nothing. … 20 or so hrs on I got put onto oxytocin to induce labour and it did nothing for me I was on the highest level and measuring at 3cm

I got to the maximum amount of time I could be left without waters so went in for emergency c-section.

lazy baby! All went fine though. Good luck for today!

NoIncomeTaxNoVAT · 01/07/2023 07:48

Echoing all the others above, please make sure you ask about antiobiotics. I had a long gap between waters breaking and contractions starting (12hrs) then another 12hrs before DD was actually delivered. Noone gave me antiobiotics and she contracted sepsis. It was a horrible time, which would have been easily prevented with antiobiotics.

YukoandHiro · 01/07/2023 07:51

Agree that you need to call in and make a plan and also ask about antibiotics.
My first labour started within a few hours of waters spontaneously breaking but it was complicated labour and took over 48 hours from ROM to arrive and she ended up on NICU with an infection. Best to avoid that if you can as it was an awful start to motherhood!

I had my baby in February, I called to say my waters had broken on a Saturday at 8pm and was told to go in for them to confirm. They confirmed it was my waters and advised me to have an immediate induction with the drip since a previous swab done for other reasons had showed group B strep, I declined immediate induction hoping things would start naturally, but I did have iv antibiotics for the strep.

I gave it 24 hours trying to relax, climb stairs, walk, use the ball but nothing happened so agreed to the drip. Baby was born vaginally 29 hours after waters broke
