HELP! How close together can you have C section to another baby/Pregnancy?

I am very worried as I think I may be pregnant, doing a test tomorrow. My baby is 5 months old and was delivered by C section. Scar is still a little tender but was worried about this and then could find no information on just how close together you can have a C section then to be pregnant again. Anyone have any experience of this? Thanks

ive got no experience of this one but youre supposed not to get pregnant after a year if you had C-section.

My doc told me to wait at least a year but I'm sure it happens all the time that a baby is conceived before. You'll just be monitored more frequently, I would guess.

No experience myself but my friend had a C-section for dd and then 12 months later had another c-section for ds (hmm, bit of a slip up there methinks!). Don't think she encountered any problems though.

i was told with mine to leave it a year before getting pregnant again. I think it's just to be cautionary though to give the muscle time to heal.

I have had 3 sections and had two years between them all. Anyway I wouldn#'t think it a problem just yuo will be monitored more closely. Good luck with the testing.

I had a c section with my first baby. No body ever advised waiting any amount of time for the secon. Although, I do think that if the scar hasn't had at least 2 or 3 years to heal, it is more likely that they will advise another section. But, I don't think it brings about any problems for the pregnancy. And, once you've had one section, another one is often advised anyway. If I were you, I'd be more uset about having to push around one of those bloody twin prams that don't fit through doorways. Smile

I think Mears (midwife) posted on this and said something like healing happened very quickly. If she sees this she will post again. It certainly doesn't take years!

I recently asked this question of GP and midwife and was advised that there is no minimum recovery period advised before ttc. GP also added that after 3 months wound will be as strong as it will ever be.

My DD (breech - ceasar) was 4 months when I became preg with DS. Didn't feel any different with second pregnancy in fact, felt better as I knew what to expect in pregnancy and birth. Healed quicker with second ceasar!
Good luck!

zsooz - there is no optimum time to wait. Your scar will have healed well by now. In the past it was advised to wait 2 years between pregnancies however there was no actual evidence to support that. It was also probably thought there should be some time to recover after having had an operation.

If you are pregnant again, do not worry about it. Your body must be functioning pretty well for that to happen. There are many women who have found themselves in the same situation as you. Good luck

Thank you so much ladies for your comments....not preggy(hooraah!) sort of but only because of what Uwila said

This is a GREAT website and have found myself reading various other threads talking out loudly to myself and agreeing with various posters...husbands thinks it's early onset of dementia no doubt.
Thanks again
xx
