Pregnancy exhaustion - when does it get better?

Without sounding dramatic - the exhaustion is debilitating. I am currently 9 weeks pregnant and I'm so tired / fatigued that I can barely get out of bed. My legs feel heavy, I have no energy to do anything, I just want to sleep.

I keep reading that nausea improves in the second trimester, does the tiredness improve too? I feel like I can't live this way for another 6 months.

Yes it does improve but mine has come back
now at 25 weeks 😭

TMI2000 · 29/06/2023 14:22

A lot of people say they find they have much more energy in the second trimester. Unfortunately I went the other way and am much more tired now at 20 weeks than I was in my first trimester.

@sahm9 oh no 😩😩

Mine got a lot better from about 13 weeks. Although for the last 2 weeks it's come back with a vengeance. I'm currently 23 weeks.😴

Leo227 · 29/06/2023 14:27

I felt fairly good from about 14 weeks to 30.

My first pregnancy was so different. I was on bed rest from 21 weeks as my waters had broke and then covid hit, so I truly didn’t notice any tiredness as I literally spent every day asleep most of the day/night. This time around I have a 3 year old and I am just exhausted beyond words. He started nursery 2 days a week this year so I spend his nursery days mostly resting but gosh the exhaustion is hitting again now I’m closer to the third trimester 😭

Spottypineapple · 29/06/2023 14:49

Mine eased around 12-14 weeks

But since 20 odd weeks I've really been noticing the afternoon slump, almost bang on 2pm I'm ready for a nap!

How are your iron levels do you know?

Hoppinggreen · 29/06/2023 14:51

When your child is around 10

VeeAye · 29/06/2023 14:52

I'm 15 weeks and waiting for the rumoured hit of energy that comes with the 2nd trimester. I suppose mine might be different though as I struggle with Chronic Fatigue when not pregnant. I feel your pain though. If it makes you feel better, it's ten to three in the afternoon and I am still in my pyjamas.

Ha I just came on to say when your child reaches 18 🤣

Joppi · 29/06/2023 14:54

Mine has been the worst in 3rd trimester although likely linked to low iron

Dildoslag · 29/06/2023 14:54

Sorry, no I was exhausted with each pregnancies. On the plus side I felt great for the first 2/3 weeks post partum then knackered again.

VegMam · 29/06/2023 15:06

I was completely floored during the first trimester. I honestly couldn’t believe it, I went from someone who worked out 5 times a week and regularly walked 30k steps a day, to someone who could barely drag myself out for a 30 min stroll.

The fatigue is so brutal.

I felt better around the start of second trimester and was fine for the rest of the pregnancy.

I’m first trimester again now, totally floored and wondering how older generations of women managed to have so many pregnancies; life must’ve been tough!

diddlysquat2 · 29/06/2023 15:10

Hahahah. I have a 1 year old but I definitely do not remember being this tired with my first pregnancy. Maybe it's my DC1 that's ramping up the exhaustion this time.

@Spottypineapple not sure on my iron levels yet. I have my booking appointment on Tuesday so could be that.

Mine went around 11 weeks but I’m now nearly 32 weeks and exhausted as can’t sleep at night

TTCJJB · 29/06/2023 19:59

I'm 19 weeks and still knackered, I've been in bed for an hour already 😂
