Early pregnancy symptoms

Hi allI've had 3 positive pregnancy tests and my last period was 2nd June so very early stages (thats why i took 3 tests of different brands). It is my first pregnancy so to be honest I am a bag of nerves. The symptoms I've had so far:- on/off achey hips- a little cramping- looser bowel movements- mild nausea- periods of feeling cold- light-headedness (I struggle with vasovagal syncope and drops in blood pressure normally though so difficult to differentiate between the two). The feeling cold is what I have been a little concerned about to be honest as I thought typically feeling warm is more common. I've completed a midwife referral form at my GP and so waiting to hear back from this, but not sure if I should try and push for an early appointment or whether I just need to relax?Thank you

You definitely need to relax. Nothing you mentioned is a cause for concern. Your first midwife appointment won’t be until around 8-10 weeks, they won’t see you earlier. Try to relax a bit, various symptoms and also symptoms coming and going are all completely normal.

Elttek · 28/06/2023 20:49

First pregnancy I had hot flushes, second pregnancy (this one) I was freeeezing in the first few weeks. Everyone and every pregnancy is different- just to keep us on our toes 🙈

Peony654 · 29/06/2023 09:44

That all sounds pretty normal. I would try and relax, obviously unless you have bleeding

Hazelnuttella · 29/06/2023 09:50

Your first midwife appointment will just be the booking appointment, which is asking you lots of questions and doing blood pressure and a blood test.

It’s usually done about 10 weeks. There’s no point in asking for an earlier appointment because they don’t really “do” anything at the appointment - it’s just information gathering.

In early pregnancy if you’re worried about your physical health you would need to contact your GP.

I had a bit of dizziness, lightheadedness and coldness too. It doesn’t sound like anything to worry about.

Thanks all for the messages, its really reassuring. I'll try my best to relax and wait it out.

Thanks

Also (and this may sound a really silly question) is it worth doing regular pregnancy tests before first scan for reassurance or is that not needed?
Thank you

Not needed. You'll end up worrying more. I am also pregnant, just over 12 weeks after 5 years of trying.

Where you can, you need to try to be calm. I know that's easier said than done, but you can't spend the next 30+ weeks worrying.

Make sure you're eating well, drinking lots of water, sleeping and getting plenty of fresh air.

I downloaded pregnancy meditation to listen to.

Try to get yourself in a positive and healthy mindset now so that you can start to relax a little bit and enjoy your pregnancy. The tests will eventually not be accurate and then you'll think you're not pregnant.

If you need something to focus on now, as I know your nhs scan is weeks and weeks away, maybe book yourself a private scan at around seven weeks. I had one, cost around £50 and I was able to see the heart beat clearly. It keep me going until the 12 weeks scan. It's only a snapshot of that exact moment but it gave me the peace of mind to keep going until my 12 weeks scan yesterday.

You will not do your mental health any good being scared for 12 weeks, even though it's very scary I know xx

Thanks for your reply, and congratulations on your news!

I have had the midwife on the phone today and she's booked my first appointment at the house for when I am 7 weeks pregnant. I've also booked a private scan for when I will be 8 weeks and 3 days. I feel comfortable with that kind of timeframe.

I'll try to relax. Been good on the water, hydration and fruit and veg. I was hoping to also do my weekly yoga, but felt a little achy and tired this week so fingers crossed I will feel better for it next week.

Not needed. You are best off focusing on the things you can control-
Fresh air, daylight, exercise, nutritious meals, regular mindful relaxation eg pregnancy yoga, meditation.
And distract yourself while you can do things independently!

@Khanga27 you've done very well to get a midwife appt so early. I'm guessing your not based in the U.K.?

Thank you for your lovely words. It's a scary but exciting time xx

Erised21 · 29/06/2023 18:20

I'm six weeks now, found out at just under 4 weeks. Had terrible bloating and diarrhoea for a while, seems to have started to settle down now (hopefully!). Now I just feel a bit more tired than usual and can feel nauseous if I've not eaten for a while.

A lot of the pregnancy process is completely outside our control, so as others have said, focus on what you can control and try not to stress too much...easier said than done!!

Hi I am in the UK, North-East. I was very surprised too tbh as I expected it later.

Hiya :)
wondering what some of your weird early pregnancy symptoms were? I have a feeling i might be as my body just feels slightly off alongside things that other people have said were their symptoms- change in discharge and light cramping, an increase in appetite and my stomach is abnormally bloated, alongside other things. But i don’t have the usual “morning sickness” or anything like that.
Ive been told it’s too early to take a test so just after some advice? <3

Congratulations Congrats GIF by Goldfish

Hello there,
Congratulations on your positive pregnancy tests! It's completely natural to feel a mix of excitement and nervousness, especially during your first pregnancy. The symptoms you've described are quite common in early pregnancy and often vary from person to person. Remember, every pregnancy is unique, so experiencing different symptoms is perfectly normal.

As for whether you should push for an early appointment or relax, it's always a good idea to trust your instincts. If you feel strongly that you need reassurance or if your symptoms become more intense, don't hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider. They are there to support you through this journey and can help address any concerns you might have.
In the meantime, take care of yourself, get plenty of rest, and maintain a balanced and nutritious diet. Remember that the early stages of pregnancy can be emotionally overwhelming, so try to find ways to relax and destress, whether it's through gentle exercise, meditation, or spending time doing activities you enjoy.
Wishing you a healthy and smooth pregnancy journey ahead!
