Subchronic hematoma really getting me down

atay27 · 27/06/2023 20:19

So at 11 weeks I had a huge bleed and they found a Subchronic hematoma measuring 8cm by 5cm.

I've had brown blood/discharge since and at my private gender scan 16+4 it was still 8x3.2cm

I'm now 18 weeks tomorrow and I've still got the brown discharge and I'm just worried sick! Scared to death it will come out and bring the baby with it!

I am seeing a consultant at my 20 week NHS scan, but it just feels too far away. I'm constantly googling, losing sleep over it. I have anxiety anyway and this is making me overthink everything!

I had one of these, and baby was just fine. Step away from google xx

I had this in my second pregnancy. Was also worried sick. My healthy 10 month old is sleeping next to me.
There's nothing that's going to stop you worrying but there is every possibility everything will be fine.
If it helps mine was a similar size / a bit bigger to begin with.
It had largely done by 28 weeks.

Thank you so much xx

Thank you so much for your comment. At your 20 week scan, what did they put in place for you for a plan of care? If anything? Thanks again, you don't know how much a simple comment has helped me.

I can totally empathise with how you are feeling, it is so hard. I had a 6cm SCH at 13 weeks with my 2nd which luckily did resolve by the time I had a private scan at 18 weeks.

Taking it easy, no heavy lifting, lots of water, Vitamin C and no sex helped mine heal I believe ❤️

Sending you a big hug x

Thank you so much! That's great that yours went so quickly. I've been drinking loads of orange and cranberry juice since I found out and no sex! I'm finding it hard to take it easy with working in a school and looking after my toddler but my other half has been great with doing the majority in the evenings. Im just worried what will happen if it's still there at 20 weeks!! 😫

@atay27

No treatment or extra care or anything. They advised me not to do any heavy lifting and no sex. I had a two year old so I did do some lifting of him but I was just generally a bit more careful and avoided it if possible.

Just take it easy and try to rest and look after yourself. Pregnancy is an anxious time and exhausting without additionally worries so be kind to yourself.

My consultant (was high risk for other reasons) was entirely non bothered about this despite it being the thing I worried about the most.

Ahh I see! I was almost hoping I'd have a plan of care at my 20 week appt in 2 weeks. I just feel like there's no info or guidance on this and it's a wait it out game?! Did you bleed up until 28 weeks?

I have an anterior placenta but no idea where the hematoma is so im just worried!!xx

I might be misinformed but I don't think there's anything they can actually do?

I think they can hospitalise you and do complete bed rest if it's exceptionally serious but this is rare.

No I didn't bleed until 20 weeks. I had a bleed at 9 weeks, and again at 15/16 weeks and then nothing more than some brown / pink discharge. It was visible on scans until 28 weeks. I continued to have one throughout but it was only about the size of a £2 coin after 28 weeks.

I actually bled more during my first pregnancy of which I had no complications other than a breech baby.

Bleeding in pregnancy is quite common and isn't necessarily anything to worry about or any cause for concern. I wouldn't worry about the bleeding per se.

Insheerpanic · 28/06/2023 12:26

I bled from 6 to 17 weeks with my first baby (after 3 miscarriages) this was terrifying. Massive clots too and huge amounts of blood. Mine had completely gone by my 20 week scan said it'll all come out and my body had absorbed the rest but I just got told to take it easy and no sex. Think mine was at top of baby too which i think made me more at risk in the early weeks. Hope everything goes well x

Ahh thank you! See mine is like brown discharge, no fresh bleeds since 11 weeks, but just brown discharge everyday since.

I'm hoping they will scan me more and explain to me where it is and the risks at my 20 week scan!

Thanks so much for your replies xx

Wow! Great that it cleared by your 20 week scan! Praying for the same but I just have a feeling it'll stick around! Xx
