High cervix position at 15 weeks - normal?!

Hi ladies, I was wondering if anyone can please help as I have trawled the internet for hours for information and can’t seem to find a straight answer.

I am 15 weeks pregnant and have been on progesterone pessaries since my BFP due to previous miscarriages, which means I have a pretty good idea of where my cervix has been sitting for the last 3 months. Usually, it is low enough that I can feel it maybe 1-2 knuckles in, but last night it was so high I couldn’t feel it. I checked again this morning and it is still the same - at a stretch I can just feel it but it feels very short when following the line of my uterus round (usually it’s like a rod and I can feel either side of it) but it feels so short, and seems to be pointing backwards towards my back.

is this normal? If your cervix is high, does that automatically mean it’s short?

I have read so much about incompetent cervix’ following my previous miscarriages that I am convinced this is what I have and I am going to miscarry before my scan next week. I will ask for it to be measured then but just looking for some information in the meantime.

Thank you in advance 💕

Hi, I was researching something similar but the other way. I too am on progesterone pessaries so have a good idea of how my cervix has been feeling. I am 13 weeks pregnant, my cervix was always high but today its quite low. I read a high and closed (tight) cervix is a good thing as it keeps bacteria out of the uterus. I came across your comment researching for myself so thought I'd help you out. Not to sure what my low cervix means though. Also I've been having what I can only describe at electric shock type feelings around my uterus and vagina for the last couple of days.

Hi @HalesBales thank you so much for reaching out and replying. I thought getting past the 12 week scan would make me relax but nope.... 😂that's so great to know, thank you. If it helps you, I have only noticed my cervix being so high and 'posterior' in the last few days-a week max (now I think about it). So at 13 weeks it was still very low as it had been through most of my pregnancy. I too have had the electric shock feelings since around 13 weeks which I've read are normal? I spoke to my midwife about them and she said it could be lightening crotch, ligaments stretching, the fact I have a retroverted uterus (the feelings could be from it starting to lift out of my pelvis) or even the first couple of flutters of baby stomping down on my cervix! So all in all, generally nothing to worry about!

No problem, glad to be of any help to you. It's so nerve wrecking any different feeling due to previous losses so I completely understand. I too spoke to my midwife about the electric shock feeling she said baby is probably just laying on a nerve. I hope you have a happy and healthy rest of your pregnancy 💗

Can I ask how low is normal for you? I’m 11 weeks and my cervix is just inside I’m very worried it’s a prolapse getting worse! I probably could have sec right now ! Have you had your baby now xx

I wouldn't worry too much about your cervix position it changes a lot in pregnancy, a prolapse would feel bumpy/lumpy, I am 36 weeks now and discovered a slight prolapse last week, my midwife did not seem worried and just told me to do my pelvic floor exercises daily, there is an app called squeezy that reminds you daily to do your pelvic floor exercises. Hope this helps.
