LMP 7 weeks, measuring behind

Hi,

So I should be 7 weeks today based off LMP, I've been for an early scan and im measuring 6+1.
Heartbeat is visible and told everything looks fine.

Is this cause for concern being a week behind? Is this due to actual conception etc?

Any experience or advise would be appreciated

Yep this will be due to when you actually conceived. You may have ovulated later than you expected.

The LMP date is just an estimate but not every woman has the same cycle / ovulation pattern.

Congratulations on your news 😊

Thank you!

Does my MW go off my LMP until the NHS scan so you know?

Yeah the midwife will go off of your LMP and then your 'official due date' that they work towards is given at your 12 Week scan 😊

I had this with my first and now again with my second. I ovulate day 21 of my cycle whereas nhs assume you ovulate day 14. Both times I’ve measured a week behind based on LMP and then once you have your 12 week scan they’ll go based by the due date given from that and ignore your LMP.

I was scanned at 7 weeks and measured at 5, baby has caught up slightly now and was only measuring 8 days behind at my 12 week scan. Kind of frustrating though because i was 12 weeks twice🤣

Thank you! You've all made me feel better.

It was an internal scan either which I was surprised at for being early, maybe that's the reason

As PPs have said this is so normal. I ovulate a week later than standard as my cycles are slightly longer than average (had no idea until my nhs scan) and they just changed my due date to a week later based on babies size. I did have to go back for a second nhs scan as at 12 weeks I was technically only 11 and too small for the measurements they wanted. All turned out fine

Thank you.

I think because I had my first via IVF the dates were all spot on! First time conceiving naturally so it's knocked me abit 😂

I had an ivf pregnancy that measured a week behind from the start, that wasn't a good sign and did have a mc a few weeks later.

I'm 20 weeks with a pregnancy from ovulation drugs including a trigger, so again the dates should have been correct. Measured 7 days behind at first and second scan (I had a lot of scans) but then caught up by a few days at 10 weeks. Everyone said to me it's only a concern if you've had ivf and a bit of a worry if you had a trigger.

Midwife will go from last period to book in 12 week scan, so if you feel that's too early to get the measurements, ring up and push it back a few days.

I’m in the same boat. Went for scan last Thursday at 7 + 2, but measured as 6 + 3 so 6 days behind. Told all looked good with the scan including a heartbeat and no need to rescan to check progress.

@seven201, I had IUI treatment so although using my natural cycle I too had ovulation drugs (five days of Clomid) and a trigger shot the day before the procedure. Is that similar to what you’re describing you did too? Just ever so worried and hoping my IUI isn’t more similar to your IVF cycle you mentioned. Hope you don’t mind me asking!

seven201 · 24/06/2023 21:13

@ItsAJourney I didn't have IUI. It could be that our eggs just took a while to travel to the right place and took a while to implant, that's all. The window for the trigger to work is also quite wide. I don't think you should be worrying. Also, they're so incredibly tiny so early on for measuring accurately.

ItsAJourney · 24/06/2023 22:07

Thanks @seven201, that’s really reassuring to know. I was hoping it might have something to do with the speed the egg released and then implanted but good to hear you suggest that theory too.
