If your waters broke at 35 weeks, when did you go in to labour?

Just that really! Went down to triage last night as I suspected my waters were leaking and turns out I was right. Have had antibiotics and first steroid injection and have been admitted for 24hrs. The hope is I get to 37 weeks then they’ll induce but Tommy’s say 50% of women in this scenario will go in to labour within a week and anecdotally I’ve read a lot of people saying they went in to labour within 48hrs. So, out of interest, I just wondered when you went in to labour if your waters broke at 35 weeks?
Needless to say, I have DH under strict orders to get the final bits ready this morning! 🙈

Not long for me, waters started leaking sat night, baby arrived Monday morning. Good luck

DiploCat1 · 24/06/2023 06:12

Within 36 hours of waters breaking. Though mine was full on movie-esque massive gush! They were going to induce me after waiting 48 and nothing happening, but then happened on its own.

Seems to be quite a common timeframe when I’ve been Googling! Thank you for sharing. I’d been moaning about how long I had left and now suddenly I’m like 😱 I need longer! We’re not ready!! 🙈

My waters broke at 34+2 and baby was born very quickly 12 hours later.

My waters broke at 34 weeks and I didn't go into labour so was induced at 37. I was kept in hospital for two nights after my waters broke, because they said that if I was going to go into labour it was more likely to happen within a couple of days of my waters breaking.

twoandcooplease · 24/06/2023 06:22

Funny you've just reminded me of when my waters started leaking. I shouted through to DP after a bath 'I am LEAKING!!!' Couldn't take one step without a gush it eventually got really annoying I was soaking for days 😂

Waters started leaking on Wed night 8pm, went into hosp to sleep there but sent home again in the morning and asked to come back at 8pm on the Thursday night. Baby came Friday at 6am

sleepsforwimps1 · 24/06/2023 06:23

Mine went at 35+2, baby was born five days later. When labour did start though it went from nothing, to she was here in an hour, so very quick

Itsadogone · 24/06/2023 06:24

No advice but I’m just a few weeks behind you.. wanted to wish you lots of luck. I’m sure itl all be fine whenever baby arrives as you’re not far off now 🤍

SkyBlue20 · 24/06/2023 06:54

Thank you everyone, a real mixed bag. I’m hopeful she’ll hang on in there at least another week or so, give her the best possible chance of avoiding extra care 🤞🏼

@SkyBlue20 can I ask how you knew it was your waters? I've been worried about this for a few days but can't tell if it's waters or discharge, or just being sweaty from.the heat, sorry tmi! What were yours like? Best of luck with next few days or weeks before you meet your little one :)

Eyre89 · 24/06/2023 06:58

Within 12 hours he was born

MariaVT65 · 24/06/2023 07:03

Hi OP, has the hospital give you clear information of the risk in this scenario, including cord prolapse?

It was only a trickle (a few times) but it just flowed out, I didn’t feel like I could control it and it was clear so I was pretty certain it wasn’t discharge. I wasn’t 100% sure but called triage just in case as with me being pre-37 weeks, I knew they’d want to check (and even post-37 weeks, it puts you on a timer, doesn’t it, because of the risk of infection). Better safe than sorry - I’d give them a call if you’re even a tiny bit unsure xx

They haven’t but I’ve done a LOT of reading around it in the last nine hours or so. Hopeful I’ll get a bit more out of them today as I was admitted so late last night.

My waters started leaking at 34+5. I didn't go into labour but because they didn't stop (and therefore due to the risk of infection) they induced at 36+1. Baby was born by section on 36+2 and didn't need additional care (except for jaundice).

You might have some steroid injections just in case for babies lungs (go for thigh not bum!) And they'll monitor.

I expect next steps will depend if your waters stop or keep trickling.

Ah so you’re still in hospital? That’s good. Do ask them about it. I’m talking from experience of a close friend whose waters broke early and she had a cord prolapse later on.

stackhead · 24/06/2023 07:46

P.s. I was admitted for 5 days and the "plan" changed everyday. One day I was being induced, the next they would wait until 37 weeks... kinda depended on the Dr on that day!

I begged to go home on day 5, which was also my birthday! And they agreed. Set the induction date and I had to go back in every other day for monitoring and bloods.

I had the antibiotics and steroid injection at 2 o’clock this morning… WOW that hurt! Not looking forward to the next one 🙈

That’s my current plan - induction at 37 weeks with regular trips back to the hospital for checking bloods and monitoring etc - but good to know it might keep changing! As is the way with pregnancy and birth, I suppose!

To update, as I always appreciate when OPs come back, I made it to 36+4 before I went in to labour, baby was born at 36+5 (just - it was 1am!) It was stop start for a bit and then, like a PP, fast and furious! Ended in an emergency section as baby was distressed but she came out healthy and other than one session under the lights for jaundice, didn’t need any extra care at all ☺️

I was about to type a reply, then realised the date of the original post !

Congratulations !

I was 34 weeks
( no idea about the +days, don't think they did that in these days :)

Never got the talked about injections.

Went into labour probably about 8/10 hours ? after waters had broken, 5lb 5oz went home 2 days later - no special care needed, although like your dd mine was jaundiced too, would have gone home after 24 hours if it hadn't been a Sunday !

snoopy18 · 08/01/2024 05:38

Congratulations glad you’re both doing well ❤️
