Can growth scans be majorly off?

40 weeks tomorrow and had my last growth scan today. Baby is estimated 8lbs2.

Both my children were 6lb3 !!!

First was born 39+6 weeks
Second was born 37+5 weeks

This seems crazzzy that baby is estimated this big!

Can it be majorly off? What did they say about your scans?

Yep. DC2 growth scan said they were tracking roughly the same growth as DC1 and estimated birth weight was going to around 7lb, DC1 was just under. DC2 was instead 8lb 6oz. Which I felt vindicated about as my bump was absolutely massive second time round compared to first so I just knew they were going to be big!

They can be wrong, but it works ways. My kids were always predicted 50th percentile for weight from scans but only one way. The other two were over 9lb.

One friend was told her baby was predicted to be about 9lb so she opted for a c section. Baby turned out to be 11lb!!

Yes they can be off especially at the end.

I also had a growth scan on my due date.. they said 9lb something and he was 10lb 6oz

Yes mine was way off. I had a scan at 36 weeks to check if the placenta was low lying. I was told Dd was already 8lbs and that estimate was for between 10 and 11 lbs. She was born the day before her due date at 8lbs...

Way off here .... 36 week scan = 8lbs, born three weeks later at 7lb7oz

My growth scans were way off!

Baby was estimated to be around 8lbs, she was born and weighed 5lbs!

Bit of a surprise for us because we were expecting a bigger baby.

They can be 10% out either way.

Birth weight and estimated weight on growth scans is audited so if any sonographers were getting vastly different measures this would be detected and dealt with.
