Spotting after transvaginal scan?

I am 8 weeks pregnant and booked a private scan to check everything was okay. Baby looks fine but the scan was actually quite uncomfortable for me (it's not usually) - and I've just checked and now have some light spotting.

I'm freaking out. Can a scan cause a miscarriage or is this normal?

Following as my baby died the day after a more than usually uncomfortable scan.

From the research I've done since and the questions I've asked doctors... They say a scan would not cause a miscarriage.

Yours was transvaginal and I guess they could have just irritated your cervix a little? If it's light spotting I wouldn't worry that's fairly normal. If it becomes red blood or you have cramping/back pains I'd suggest giving epu a call just incase. Interested in others experiences too x

The probe only goes into your vagina very slightly, so wouldn't be anywhere near the cervix to cause irritation. I'd say definitely not linked. Light spotting is very common in early pregnancy but if it gets worse or continues call your EPU.

It does/can touch the cervix, also depends on the positioning. My sister's cervix is titled and her scans are very painful and easily cause irritation. Whereas I don't find them uncomfortable as my cervix is positioned different. The scan causing irritation itself wouldn't cause miscarriage, hence why I'm saying that may be a reason for her spotting. But also interested to see other people's experiences due to a bad experience of my own.

It does touch your cervix. I've also had a previous lletz due to abnormal cells so maybe mine is still a little sensitive? Spotting seems to have slowed down this morning.

@Ttcmumma I am so so sorry for your loss and that you had to go through. I really hope it wasn't related :-(.

This happened to me with every pregnancy transvaginal scan and all pregnancies were fine. I don't know why it happened but in my case, nothing sinister

@ArcticSkewer thank you for this, very reassuring. So pleased all your pregnancies were fine :)
