just looking for some advice pleaseeee!

I posted on here not long ago as was experiencing a strange feeling when weeing, just really slow flow and constantly feeling like I keep needing to go even after drinking the smallest amount. Only 21 weeks pregnant so feel like baby can’t be that big sitting on the bladder to cause all this …

anyway went to maternity triage for suspected uti after a phone call with the midwives. They dip tested late at night and said no signs of UTI and just come back if anything gets worse.

can’t shake the feeling that somethings not right so went to the GP today for another dip test first wee of the morning. Before the Dr had dip tested they prescribed antibiotics. I called up and asked if they can dip test first as not comfortable taking tablets if they’re not going to at least check whether I have UTI.

nurse then diptested and said that it’s shown up light on the test for suspected uti so they recommend I start the antibiotics. Happy to listen to their advice but never really heard of a light or dark test and do feel a bit concerned about taking antibiotics if not 100% necessary.

anyone had something like this before and would you suggest taking the antibiotics or waiting for results to come back from lab next week?

I don’t think that anyone on here should be contradicting the advice that you’ve been given from your own health professionals

@Ozabet40 Ive had this loads of times, they pick up an infection at the drs, so give me antibiotics and then send it off to the lab where it shows up no infection! I always take the antibiotics because I get symptoms of a uti and the tablets clear it right up. If I were you I’d take their advice and take them, you wouldn’t want a uti to be left to get worse during pregnancy xx

Really important to treat UTIs in pregnancy as they can cause many problems.
When you dip urine, it's not just positive or negative, it's like a scale so if you have a raging infection, the colours on the strip will change to the dark colour, whereas if the infection markers were present in lesser quantity, the colour on the dip would be lighter. This is what I think the nurse means. I would take them before it gets any worse, hope it settles soon.

Wanted to add you can get UTI dip tests on Amazon that work well. I ended up buying them in my first pregnancy as I got more than 5 Utis and was sick of asking them to test me. I would just test myself, tell them and get more antibiotics. Never get Utis when I'm not pregnant but clearly can't live without them when I am 🤣. They would have given you pregnancy safe antibiotics so you'll be fine to take them. It's actually worse to not take them, you can end up going into preterm labour if it becomes a kidney infection. My first UTI almost did, I was in severe pain and weeing blood at 4am, rushed to hospital and it was a very very bad UTI almost kidney infection. I had the signs leading up but like you wasn't too sure, it got worse quite quickly. The pain literally woke me up 🤦🏼‍♀️.

That baby is now 5 btw, so the antibiotics didn't harm him in anyway 😊

Dipstick tests and urine cultures are not accurate they miss a high percentage of cases when people have a uti. If you have symptoms take the antibiotics.
