Blood thinning injections

So I am 11 weeks pregnant and today was told I have too Inject blood thinners every day for the rest of my pregnancy and for 6 months after.

Brief background I had clots on my lungs after my last baby due to not having stockings or thinners. But that's another story.

Anyway it appears I may have developed a DVT, and now I have too inject twice every day for the next 13 months basically.

I have only done 2 and I'm already bruised and in pain

Has anyone else had to inject throughout pregnancy or for a lengthy period of time that can give me any tips on it been slightly less painful Confused

There is a technique to this, when the nurse injected me it didnt hurt or bruise but when I did it was painful and I bruised.

Can you ask the Nurse or MW at you appt for tips? The leaflet in the box also has some directions about the correct angle to inject at that might make a difference.

No personal experience but I've heard a cold compress for a few minutes before and after.
You could also try arnica?

I have just recently finished a 6 week course of blood thinners after birth.
The night i was in hospital after the birth of baby the midwife administered me the first injection, she told me to ‘pinch an inch’ and inject into the pinched part.

I tried to do it at home without pinching my skin first and the pain was horrific, pinched an inch of skin the second injection and got no pain!
Hope that it helps 🤞🏻

Tbf I had a nurse do it today when I was given them and my partner this evening and I'd actually say the one the nurse did hurt more! Lol.

I've had them before but never remember them hurting like this Confused

Yeah I have pinched and it doesn't hurt to actually inject but the injection site aftwr is so painful for about half an hour.

I guess aftwr 13 months of doing it daily I will probably get used too it though

I injected for 37 weeks in total, I bruised beyond belief, I just alternated between stomach and thighs. Was certainly glad when I could stop

@Elusivelady oh that’s rubbish! i found that letting go of the skin before taking the needle out didn’t hurt afterwards; i think each person will differ though! 🙂

I had to in my 2nd pregnancy (and after delivery as had a c section).

I was on clexane, was advised to do it on my belly as that is where there is usually more fat and you don't have to sit on it like you would if you used your bum.

I was also taught to imagine a clock face on either side of your abdomen and then inject at 12 o'clock for one jab, 1 o'clock the next and so on. Then move to the other side of your abdomen for the new clock face. Also not to rub it afterwards no matter how much it stings.

It's not pleasant but very bearable. Frustrating at the time too.
