9dpo BFP when to tell?

Evening everyone 😊

I’ve just got my first BFP this evening after 4 cycles and I’m currently 9dpo.

I’m over the moon although it is very very early.

I’m just wondering if anyone had any advice on when would be a suitable time to tell my manager?

I know I can leave it a while but my main reason for testing so early was extreme tiredness over the last week and generally feeling a bit crap. Basically just wondering if it’s better to tell them earlier incase it affects my work or anything or do I see how I go? I don’t have any intentions of going in tomorrow and telling 😂

This is my first pregnancy so to be honest I’m not really familiar with what the requirements are with work etc

Thank you in advance

You can tell anyone whenever you want there’s no rules. Fatigue and feeling a bit rubbish is pretty normal in the first trimester. It’s completely up to you when you want to tell people though

@Sarab85 congratulations on your pregnancy!

There's no hard and fast rule on when you tell work. In the UK you can tell them anytime up until 15 weeks before your due date by law (clearly you'd be showing by then though!).

Personally I'd give it a few weeks and see how you get on. It's totally normal to feel fatigued (I'm currently feeling like I need a nap every 2 hours haha), but if you feel that it is getting to a point where it is genuinely impacting your work and you are concerned, you can definitely tell your manager. By law you are protected against discrimination when pregnant. It also depends on what work you do - if you need any adjustments for safety etc. then it's best to tell them in advance of when these adjustments would need to be put in place.

Personally I won't tell work until well into my second trimester, but I work full time from home so no one will actually have any clue I'm pregnant!

Congrats! Same position here, about 16 DPO. I've been feeling OK and I mostly WFH so I am going to wait until at least 12 week scan to tell work. As PP said, legally you only have to tell them 15 weeks before due date/mat leave.

If you work in a risky environment (risk of fall/impact, heavy lifting, hazardous chemicals etc) then tell your manager sooner rather than later so a risk assessment can be done.

Otherwise I'd leave it until at least 12 weeks if you can. Reason: in some workplaces being pregnant can set you back from applying for other roles/promotions/development opportunities. It's super-early and you don't know how the pregnancy will progress, so I wouldn't tell them yet.

If you've been feeling under the weather and it's impacting your work then tell your line manager you've been feeling under the weather. Make something up if you need to, and do what you can to manage fatigue.
