There is no photo but a higher heart rate is normal in pregnancy

babyk2023 · 19/06/2023 20:05

Sorry forgot to add the photo.

I just feel breathless and like I'm having palpitations but I'm not even that big yet (14 weeks)

Anything over 120 is considered a bit of a concern, but it depends on a lot of things - what were you or had you been doing when you took this reading? And how long was it sustained for?

kitkatnatnat · 19/06/2023 20:09

If that is your resting heart rate then no that's not normal. If the shortness of breath is persistent as well you need to seek medical advice, I think call 111.

Hi Nia1996
You need to start your own thread in the pregnancy topic as your question will probably get lost in this one. Just go to the top and click on start new thread.

Hi OP. If you’re breathless and your HR is that high, you need to phone your EPAU (early pregnancy unit) and ask for advice. They might tell you to go to A&E but will assess you over the phone beforehand.

Nia1996 · 19/06/2023 20:42

Thank you sorry I’m new to this was a bit confused how to post.

Daisy95 · 19/06/2023 20:43

Op you definitely need to contact your midwife asap if this is your hr at rest. If you've just run up the stairs etc then no. But if it's that at rest and you're breathless definitely get checked out

SMBCmama · 19/06/2023 20:44

Also consider asking for your Hb to be checked. A really high resting heart rate and feeling tired and unfit were the first signs I had that I was dangerously anaemic.

HouseFullOfChaos · 19/06/2023 20:53

This happened to me during pregnancy. I was in and out of atrial fibrillation from about 15 weeks pregnant. No heart issues before pregnancy at all. Just breathless, slight flutter and fast heart rate which came and went. Get it checked and if they do an ECG and it's normal then mention paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Mine was missed until I blacked out and was lucky enough to not land on my protruding baby bump.

Astromelia · 19/06/2023 20:55

Definitely not normal, unless you’ve just been running. It could be anything, get checked out tonight please.

babyk2023 · 19/06/2023 22:25

I only just ordered the thing to measure my pulse as I've been told my the GP whenever I visit that my heartbeat is slightly high and that my temp has been slightly raised so they gave me antibiotics for infection although they couldn't pinpoint where it was as I had no pain or other symptoms related to infection.

I had some bloods done for something else and my ALT levels were raised and I now have a liver ultrasound on Wednesday so I'm not sure if it's related to that?

Hoping to get some answers. The lowest my heart rate is from what I've seen when I have GP appointments is 100 BPM. Just want some answers really 😔

It has gone down a bit so shall I just take it as this is my normal? Sorry the room's dark hence the dark background x

Everyone is different, just like you my heart rate was always high when I was pregnant. Lowest was about 100bpm. Had a heart scan and also multiple ECG’s. All normal, returned back to my normal after pregnancy, which is about 80bpm for me (resting). Definitely get it looked into though.

tinyshoppingbasket · 20/06/2023 08:19

You should still have this looked in to.

Resting heart rate increases in pregnancy but that is still very high.

jadey1991 · 20/06/2023 09:31

Hi op, experienced nurse here. Before pregnancy ehay has your heart rate been?

babyk2023 · 20/06/2023 14:17

Hi @jadey1991 I'm not too sure if I'm honest but I know it wasn't this high.

I just feel like I'm being a pain if I keep going to the doctors about this and it's probably to do with pregnancy but I feel out of breath all the time and like I'm having palpitations most of the time. Perhaps it's just part of the pregnancy?

OP posts:
babyk2023 · 20/06/2023 14:19

Today my pulse was 107 this morning and I just put some laundry away and it's 137. I don't have a massive bump or anything. Is this just normal during pregnancy?

OP posts:
jadey1991 · 20/06/2023 14:26

@babyk2023 I would recommend you call your midwife and express your concerns. It's quite hard to say if this is just related to your pregnancy as you have alot more blood pumping through the body in order to help you and baby..

How far did u say you were

jadey1991 · 20/06/2023 14:28

@babyk2023 bo worries I can see you are 14 weeks..
I'm currently 15 weeks pregnant with my 4th baby. However u know my heart rate goes up. Bit like I did say this could just be pregnancy related.. speak with your midwife

tinyshoppingbasket · 20/06/2023 14:36

Yes it will be pregnancy related in all likelihood but that doesn't mean you can ignore it. Call your midwife / MAU / GP.

You will probably get referred for an ECG.

In the meantime take your vitamins and a fat dose of magnesium.

Totallyconfusedperson · 20/06/2023 14:42

No it’s not normal. I had that, turns out I had pulmonary embolism, it could be deadly and being pregnant is a risk factor. Definitely go to A&E or at least speak to your midwifery team

KY2021 · 20/06/2023 14:56

@babyk2023 in reference to the palpitations, I had them quite bad in my 1st trimester and into my 2nd and when I mentioned them to my midwife at my 17 week appointment she said it was absolutely normal and it's to do with all the changing hormones. I didn't have them with my 1st baby so was a bit concerned but about a week later they stopped completely and I haven't had them since (28 weeks now) ☺️

whatcanidotobelieve · 21/06/2023 17:55

I had this, I made it through my pregnancy but after was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, this is incurable and terminal. You probably don't have it but please get checked. As someone else posted, it could also be a pulmonary embolism.
