Can a sweep work quickly?

Yes everyone is different and reacts differently to all this stuff.

I've read it's common for labour to start 48hours plus after.

Wondering if anyone had one and went into labour that day or the next day?

With my first I had one at 2pm and he was born at 11.14pm 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had one and then labour started about 16 hours later, the midwife who gave me a sweep didn't think it would be successful but turns out it was

I didn't have a sweep when offered and went into labour 12 hours later, so hard to separate whether it would happen naturally.

I had a first one at 40 weeks which brought on cramping but nothing much happened. Had a second sweep at 40+5, much stronger cramping pretty much right after and then went into labour that night.

I had one with my DD2, four months ago at about 12pm. Started having contractions at about 1pm, my waters broke at about 5pm and she was born at 19:51 😃

It can do. It really depends on your body. I had three sweeps with my first and they didn't do much, is anything. With my second, I had one at about 11 am, having been in off/off latent labour for a couple of days and things picked up pretty much straight away and I gave birth 6 hours later.

There is no scientific evidence that sweeps work. I don’t know why the NHS still insists on putting women through it.

There’s no actual scientific evidence that sweeps bring on spontaneous labour. They’ve done many studies and they’ve all been inconclusive or low evidence so there is no certainty.

I refused them. I also refused all cervical checks pre labour and while in labour. You don’t have to consent to them.

I had 3 sweeps over 2 weeks, after the 3rd one I went into labour that night

DC1 - three sweeps, none of which achieved anything

DC2 - sweep at 1pm, reflexology at 2pm, supermarket trip at 3.30pm, collected DC1 from nursery at 4.30pm walked the 2.5 miles round trip for that, realised I might be in labour at 6pm, arrived at hospital at 8.30pm, DC2 born at 9pm!

I've had multiple sweeps with all of my 5 overdue babies. DC1, 3, 4 the sweeps did nothing except dislodge my plug. DC5 the last one may have started something as I was contracting on the induction ward at 41wks waiting for delivery but ultimately didn't do enough quick enough.

DC2 however I had a sweep at 10amish, (I'd had one three days before at 41wks) MW said my waters were bulging and she thought I would go imminently. I started contracting not long after, by midnight they were close enough to go to hospital and she was born at 8.30.
