have registered myself at ulster hospital for the maternity unit. I am 21 weeks now and im not sure if I should switch to royal for my delivery! I have had good experience so far but if there is anyone who can give me an honest review about where I should go ulster or royal for my delivery it will be of great help. I’m a women of color and It’s my first pregnancy I don’t want it be a sour experience in a different country!

If you've had a good experience so far then I'd stay where you are. I've heard so much good about the Ulster, it's newer than the Royal and better facilities. The doctors in Royal are very diverse in terms of colour/ethnicity, but the midwives are nearly exclusively white, and they will be the ones most likely delivering the baby. I'd hazard a guess there will be less diversity in Ulster, but don't let that put you off if you are happy so far.

Hi, op. I have never had a bad experience in the ulster with any of my babies. Like the above comment says, if you've had a good experience so far then personally I'd stick with it. I can also say that I've has friends deliver in the Royal and again no issues. The home from home is lovely in the ulster and again so is the labour ward. Good luck xx

I can't think of any bad stories from friends about the Ulster, and my own births there (both sections, one before and one during covid) were good. I never felt the care was lacking.

I have heard issues from the Royal - nothing that would put me off if it was my nearest hospital, but the usual over crowded, under staffed maternity unit stuff that you hear throughout the UK and Ireland.

I can't comment as WOC though.

I know a lot of Muslim women (predominantly SE Asian but also East African) who've gone to Ulster and no issues reported or perceptions of discrimination.
