Changing hospital at 34+2

So I'm 34+2 and I've just requested to change hospital 🙈 I don't know if I'm mad or not.

I was diagnosed with heart problems during the pregnancy and as lovely as everyone has been, I feel the communication between cardiologist and consultant has been really disjointed and as I get closer to having her I'm starting to worry more and more.

The hospital I've requested to go to has a specialist cardiac obstetric unit where they all work together as a joint team and I know I would get monitored better etc.

Has anyone else changed hospitals this late? 😬 Midwife said I'll get a phone call from someone tomorrow, not sure who.

Sounds like a good idea OP you should go wherever you feel most comfortable.

I changed hospitals at a similar time, maybe a few weeks earlier because home births became allowed again (after Covid). The hospital I had booked with was 'out of area' and I needed to be in the local trust to access the home birth team.

I can't remember if I self referred to the new trust or if the midwife did it for me, but I got a call the same or next day and had to go and do the booking appointment, and bloods etc all over again (different trust, different paper work!)

In any case it was all handled quickly, and no issues with switching so you should be fine :)

@Spottypineapple Thank you for replying :D

The midwife did mention about self referring but I thought it was easier she did it, I wouldn't know where to begin 🤣 She says I'll be getting a call tomorrow but I think it's from the hospital I'm with now, I'm not sure. She just spoke to someone in another dept over the phone and asked her to sort it tomorrow. With it being a Sunday there was nothing she could do and she's off tomorrow so didn't want me to slip through the net.

The only downside is this hosp is a 45 min drive each way so I'm not looking forward to attending appointments there 🙈 Because I'll probably need a booking appt plus an appointment with the cardiac/obstetric team at least.

When you move to a new hosp, does your midwife stay the same or does that also change? Obviously my current midwife is local to me so I'm assuming she'll stay as my midwife? x

Yep, because my midwife appointments were with the community team at my local GP the midwife stayed the same. I think changing trusts made life a lot easier for them too 😂

@Spottypineapple Brilliant thank you! Hoping I get a phone call tomorrow then and will await what they say 😁 If not I've got a phone number I've been told to call on Tuesday if I don't hear anything x

I have changed hospital. Wanted to give birth at the local midwife unit but deemed too high risk. Have a bad experience with the hospital I am meant to be going to so have opted to change

I changed at about 37 weeks as I moved area, it was fine!
