Hi everyone,

i would greatly appreciate everyone's input.

  1. I have pcos, though my cycles are fairly regular. I did a pregnancy test (home test kit) 28 days into my cycle it was negative.

  2. I went for a ultrasound scan as part of pre IVF treatment around 4 1/2- 5 weeks after the start of my cycle, and the sonographer said there was nothing in the cavity.

  3. One week later (now 6 weeks since last period) I did a clearblue pregnancy test it stated positive "2-3 week".

  4. I repeated pregnancy test this week with clearblue showed same result "2-3 weeks"

  5. I do not have any pregnancy symptoms, other than a bit tired, which could be due to the warm weather.

My concern is

  1. how comes the ultrasound scan 4.5 weeks after last period did not show anything
  2. Why is my clearblue test still showing 2-3 weeks?
  3. I do not have any bleeding/miscarriage symptoms, but really concerned

thank you

Have you called your IVf clinic? They should be best placed to advise?

4.5 weeks since last period is really early and often not much would be seen at that stage. If your pregnancy tests were negative at 4 weeks (28days) then that could be why, less than a week later nothing is showing up. I would either try and have another scan in 2 weeks or ask if you can have HCG bloods taken 48 hours apart to check they are riding properly. Most places don’t scan until 6 weeks pregnant at the earliest because of this.

Rising not riding

I don’t know much about ivf though but 4.5 weeks since last period is very early

Was your scan abdominal or transvaginal? I've had a scan at 4 w 5d after a positive test and my obgyn took ages to find her. In fact she kept asking if I was sure I'd had a positive test. This was transvaginal scan, I highly doubt anything would have shown up on an abdominal scan.

Also I'm not sure as it varies by area but can you get a scan at your local epu?

4.5 weeks is super early and it's not surprising to not see anything at all on a scan at that date. The NHS recommendation for scans is after 6 weeks, as anything before that can be unreliable (although I know IVF clinics seem to scan earlier).

Symptoms wise - some people go through pregnancy with little to no symptoms, this on its own doesn't mean anything and can't tell you if anything is wrong.

The Clearblue tests are not a good indicator really (the weeks thing should only be taken as a bit of fun) - the HCG range on them per week is huge. You have to imagine '1-2 weeks' is anywhere from 3 weeks pregnant to 4+6 pregnant, '2-3 weeks' is 4 weeks to 5+6 (sometimes into 6), and '3+' is '6+'. Those tests are honestly a nightmare for lots of people, I wouldn't over think it.

My suggestion would be to either contact your EPAU with your concerns and see if they will scan you, or pay for a private scan. Without a follow up scan it's impossible to say what's going on. x
