37 Weeks and BP Spiked :( Anxious about Induction

Hey everyone!

FTM here at 40 years old. My BP has been perfection until this week, when it measured 145/88 at my prenatal.

Doc wants to ensure at the end of 38 weeks - basically next Saturday, and I’m super anxious about what to expect.

Id hoped for an easy vaginal birth as everything till that point had been going so well - she says we can still go for it. But I’ve heard horror stories about inductions, and also have the feeling that my baby hasn’t finished cooking in there.

I’m definitely listening to my docs advice, but wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. I’m terrified of a still birth or if I’ll get fatigued or how bad the pain will be. I have nothing to compare it to

It’s normal to be anxious about the birth but tbh, I think it’s good to mentally prepare for the notion that anything can happen in terms of method of giving birth. Some inductions work, some don’t. Mine didn’t, my friend’s did. But 38 weeks is perfectly safe. What’s not actually safe is going too far after 40 weeks.

Wishing you the best!

@ThisIsMeD Hi, i was induced at 38 weeks due to all of a sudden getting preeclampsia.
I wasn't prepared at all.
I went to my 38 week midwife appointment and my blood pressure had shot up so she sent me straight to hospital. It wasn't going down much and baby had stopped growing since last appointment 2 weeks ago.
First, the pessary that's in for 24 hours didn't work then they tried the gel that did start me off.
I was in labour for 1 hr 40 mins. It all went so fast.
A lot of people I've spoken to that have been induced have had such short labours.
My daughter is now 4 .
Good luck x

I've had 3 inductions and all went well no other interventions needed. 1st was just popping waters 6 hour labour. gas and air.
2nd was pessary 1 hour labour. Gas and air.
3rd was the drip and that was about 7 hours I had an epidural before they started the drip as baby was back to back too. Will be getting epidural with any future babies too it was amazing.

This is so comforting to hear. And congrats on your beautiful child :)

Pregnancy is such a trip and so unpredictable!

Whew!

That is so true. I do have a lot of faith in my doctor, and she’s super calm. The internet can be a scary place when you read a lot of stuff! 😅😅😅

I’ve been weighing it out about an epidural! Still not decided. But I have one more appointment and will raise all this up with my OBGYN.

I can’t actually believe this moment is here!

Whether an induction works or not is down to if your body and your baby cooperate. You don’t know until you’ve had one of it will work and if you have another induction the outcome could be different because baby still needs to cooperate. However, if you are getting fatigued during the induction process or you fee it isn’t working you can ask for a c-section then. I personally decided I wasn’t going to go on the drip and that’s the point I’d ask for a c-section.

I had an induction at 38+1. It took 17 hours after the pessary was inserted for contractions to start but that was overnight. Baby was born 12 hours after the first contraction, normal vaginal birth, just had and air and a small tear. Baby was born at 38+2 and was perfectly cooked.
