Has anyone been admitted for extra amniotic fluid?

Hi guys,

Im looking for bear experiences from other women diagnosed with high fluid (polyhydramnios) I'm 30 weeks and they discovered at 20 weeks scan that I have extra fluid in my bump.

So two weeks ago doc sent me in as my 28 week bump was measuring 38 weeks fundal height and the scan showed that my fluid was at 26 afi.

I am due back in again tomorrow for scan and I'm dreading that they are going to keep me
Until delivery? Has this happened to anyone?

If you were diagnosed with high fluid, , what was the outcome and how did they care for you? We're you induced ? Etc

I had polyhydromnios with both pregnancies. I wasn't taken in, but did get given extra scans. I was HUGE by the time I reached due date and very uncomfortable due to lack of space for my lungs so breathing was somewhat restricted and I couldn't lay down at all, had to sleep sitting up. I was induced a few days after my due date. When they broke my waters there was tons and tons of fluid.

Anyway I then went on to have a c-section. Baby perfectly healthy . They did have to undertake some extra checks when baby was born which meant baby not given to me immediately.

Second was a planned section, which I had to really push for with the consultant.

Glad baby is healthy and happy ❤️☺️

Can I ask do
You know what measurement your afi was at? Trying to figure out what will be a safe figure to be sent home!

So I'm saying I doubt they will take you in at this stage. My recommendation would be to be prepared for a section when you do eventually go in e.g. take nighties, as you don't want pyjamas rubbing against a c-section wound.

GoodVibesHere · 13/06/2023 17:28

No sorry I don't know what the measurement was

This was the exact same thing I had in my latest pregnancy(son now 7months old) sound more scary than the word sounds doesn't it especially when you have never heard such a thing before, i know i never!.. well with the extra fluid their is a risk of cord prolapse did they tell you this? I'm not mentioning it to scare you just so you know if haven't been told already because I had to practically get this out of them when they mentioned polyhydramionos to me and I immediately asked what it meant and were there any risks which the consultant for someone unknown reason didnt want to disclose at first.. like you only found out when i was 28 weeks(was sent for a growth scan as on fundal height chat i was measuring 4 weeks ahead!) But I then found out i had GD too which can be a factor of it which they will check for as to what may cause the extra fluid by taking blood(can't remember what they exactly call it but their is a word for it) my afi on once scan measured 28 something but then when I got scanned again it was back down to just over 26(got told it can also be baby's pee in their aswell) but aslong as the fluid isn't too much I think it's meant to be 25 isn't it in pregnancy? But anyway they won't keep you in until delivery hun, they will just give you more scans to monitor baby but especially fluid aswell so try not to worry too much(easier said than done) but you will be in safe hands from now on and they will just keep an eye one you ect.. I ended up going in for an induction at 37+2 as they prefer it if it's managed because if you were to go in labour at home their could be a risk of cord prolapse but that's why they offered me an induction or c-section which is only to make sure if something was to go wrong whilst in labour I was already their, its your choice as you don't have to agree to an induction or c-section they will advise you not to go against their clinical advice as they did me but the choice would still be down to you hun, if you have any more questions feel free to ask x

Thank you so much ladies for your replies it's really helpful to know how both of yer experiences went!

I just wanted to update that I went for a scan today and fluid was measuring at 26.3 so still high but not crazy high! The plan is they're going to bring me back in four weeks jusy to check again and make a plan from there but they didn't seem overly concerned! Hopefully by then it has reduced!

Congratulations on your pregnancy OP. I had polyH with my pregnancies too. I was very big. Sorry, but I have no idea what measurements were now. I was told that if my waters broke, I needed to go in to hospital straight away as there was a risk of cord hurting the baby. I was induced for my first and heavily monitored (stayed in one position on back so they can monitor - not v practical for natural, but I have heard some hospitals will monitor you whilst allowing you to change positions). They broke my waters - tons of fluid. Ended up with emergency c-section and a healthy baby. Next were c-sections - also healthy.

I had polyhydramnious with my last two and had C-section with both at 37 / 38 weeks. Both were ok but taken to SCBU as a precautionary measure. Both now in their 20s and two lovely guys X

Hi All. I know this is an old post but hoping someone can help. I am 29+2. Have GD and my amniotic fluid has been high for the last 6 weeks. I have scans every 2 weeks and yesterday it went up from 26cm to 36cm (in 2 weeks!!). My GD was diet controlled but it’s still not been good readings so now on Metaformin. My question is did anyones fluid level ever decrease or just not get any bigger? And was baby ok no genetic issues? I had a NIPT that was low risk but now I’m panicking, they don’t really tell you much and I’ve googled and wish I didn’t. Thanks all and glad all went ok with your pregnancies x
