Odd feeling in my you-know-what. Just the pressure of baby's head?

Am 31 weeks and woke this morning with uncomfy feeling in my fanjo (sorry if this is TMI) - feels as if been having loads of nookie with DH (which we haven't - unless I am so knackered I slept through it )

got my urine tested by nurse to rule out Urine infection and midwife I spoke to said it's probably just baby's head pressing down. It's exactly the same sort of "swollen" feeling i got down there when they induced me with a pessary first time.

Has anyone else had this sensation? Does it wear off after a bit?

I had it throughout my second pregnancy, the midwife also sent me for a swab to rule out any kind of vaginal infection. But everything was fine so I had to live with it...
I don't know if it's the sign for any other condition though, I hope someone more knowledgeable comes along

"throughout" your pregnancy?? oh no - I have another 9 (probably 11) weeks to go

sorry ! I think it started when I was at around 23 weeks (and it was uncomfortable only when walking or standing up for too long) and it eased off at the end... I don't remember very well... so you did see a midwife today for it??

moominsmummy · 21/02/2008 16:45

no just spoke to her on the phone. agreed that i will go to drop in midwife clinic tomorrow pm if no better

for now am going to take some paracetemol to see if that helps - do you think a warm bath would help too??

Well I'm a great believer in the therapeutic effect of warm bath, I'd have one!
Is it just discomfort or is it painful? If it's really that painful ring them again, just to be on the safe side (I was an apprehensive pregnant woman, btw )

is it your cervix? both my pgs I have felt like the baby is scratching at my cervix with a fingernail!!

MrsTittleMouse · 21/02/2008 17:28

DD used to headbutt my cervix. It was really unpleasant and the pain was quite sharp. You can tell that it's the cervix though, the pain doesn't extend down to the entrance. Does it feel like that?

I've had this for a while but it got much worse over the last week, I could barely stand up and turning over in bed was a nightmare- urine check by mw last Wed was clear so thought it was just pressure of baby (am due Sun). However, on Tuesday it got much much worse and I started having contractions so I toddled off to hospital and lo and behold I had a uti. Contractions were caused by the uti irritating my uterus (still having them but definitely BHs now) I am now on antibiotics and the pain has lessened lots and what I still have is (I think) baby pushing down. I just wish it'd push even further and make an appearance!
Just keep an eye on it as mw told me that if you are not near term utis can cause some concern as they can bring on early labour- am sure you'll be fine, especially if you're being checked tomorrow. Lots of rest is probably a good idea too!

I'v been getting this. I am 34 weeks and its my 2nd pregnancy. Literally feels like the baby is trying to push its way out. Nice. Its not so uncomfortable that I need pain killers and is normally fairly short lived.

cluelessnchaos · 21/02/2008 21:24

I always felt like a banana split my the end of my pregnancies

BigBadMouse · 21/02/2008 21:32

I've had this with both my pregnancies. I remember very clearly trying to walk around the supermarket like I was about to give birth - I looked blimen stupid though as I was tiny and didn't really look pregnant at all . I think it started quite suddenly at about 30 weeks. Some days it was better than others.

Definitely get checked out for a possible UTI though.

Hope all is fine, you will get sort of used to it and do bear in mind it doesn't neccessarily stay like that until the end if it is just down the the babies position IME

Wilkie · 21/02/2008 21:36

It's not thrush is it?? That can make you feel very swollen and uncomfortable without the creamy white discharge - I should know, I had it for the last 10 weeks of my PG. Nightmare

moominsmummy · 22/02/2008 15:42

been to see the MW - all ok although unexpectedly the baby is actually lying transverse so it's not the pressure of the baby's head! at least i know it's nothing serious - although she has sent urine off for more detailed analysis as she did say i looked pale and tired (probably applies to every pregnant woman with a 3 year old to look after )

she also suggested putting some sanitary pads in the freezer as can relieve feeling of "swelling"

I have got this too and am clear of UTI. Feels like baby is bouncing on cervix or bladder and I feel like I am gonna pish myself, but when I go to the loo there is nothing there.
