Hi all, first baby and just looking for reassurance.
I did already head to the midwife unit and had a CTG Thursday, my babies heart rate was all over the place at first but then it slowly settled to high normal at around 153-155 , they discharged me after a few hours and now awaiting a scan, although they said they’d call Friday and haven’t heard anything so I’m guessing it will be tomorrow.
until that time of course I’m really worried, she was really active and has definitely slowed down I’ve read conflicting advice on articles vs midwife, my midwife said there shouldn’t be any reduction at all but I’ve read on countless baby articles that the closer you are to labour it does slow down and the kicks aren’t as strong etc has anyone been in the same position and fine? I’ve done everything i can alerting the changes and was monitored for at least an hour or two on Thursday and the doctor went over the results and let me go but said they’ll do a scan.

Glad you've been monitored and hope you get a scan sorted.

I did find that baby slowed down towards the end of my pregnancy, there was always some movement and it never worried me but definitely less.

Thank you, I’m hoping everything is ok and she’s just chilling more in there - she’s always been pretty reactive to touch and talk or after I’ve eaten but it’s slowed down which is why I’m worried if I rubbed her quite a bit she’d always kick back but she’s not really doing that anymore so I think it’s that that’s freaking me out but I’m sure if they were worried I would have had a call Friday but can’t help but think badly

Please go and get checked again. It's a myth babies slow down and move less. Call them immediately. It'll also give you peace of mind x

Nell80 · 11/06/2023 17:50

I'd go get checked again. It will do no harm but could be very helpful. If you go a few times this far along they may start offering you an induction, just FYI

Nursemumma92 · 11/06/2023 20:55

It is a myth that babies move less at towards the end of pregnancy. They have less room but they move the same amount. Please go and get checked again- I'm not saying there is anything wrong as babies can have a chill day but it cannot be taken for sure as normal and you are clearly worrying. I was the same in my pregnancy and was in twice for reduced movements in both pregnancies. All the best x

Miscellaneousme · 11/06/2023 20:58

If your baby’s movements are still reduced, you definitely need to call your maternity unit tonight and get checked over again.

Miscellaneousme · 11/06/2023 20:59

(I’m a midwife)

CC222 · 11/06/2023 22:06

Please call triage to go in and be checked at time you're worried about reduced movements. Even if you just leave the hospital and you're worried again, go straight back. Don't let anything put you off. This needs to be monitored any time that thought crosses your mind.

hattyhathat · 11/06/2023 22:08

If you are at all concerned then go in. Please.

hattyhathat · 11/06/2023 22:10

This is probably the one time the NHS are like yeah come in whenever you're at all concerned at we will check it out. It is that serious.

Whiskeypowers · 12/06/2023 09:24

hope all is ok @rosiebutterfly did you go back and get seen?

rosiebutterfly · 12/06/2023 15:41

Hi all,
they don’t want to see me, ultrasound department looked at my notes and refused, apparently CTG was ok Thursday and movement was ok on the CTG so no further action

That's ridiculous, Thursday is days ago. They should be seeing you for a CTG any time you're worried about reduced movements..
if you're concerned I'd push back and insist they see you to be monitored on the CTG

I queried it as fetal heart rate was high and growth change but apparently maternity triage the doctor and the ultrasound department reviewed everything and will not book me in so there’s not much else I can do

I am currently in hospital being induced as a result of repeated reduced fetal movements.
Maybe it's different in different health boards but for mine every time you go in and have a CTG as a result of reduced movements then you have to have an ultrasound within 72 hours, even if your CTG is fine.
I was also told each time I went in that if I had any concerns again at all, to always go back in and said they would rather see me every day if need be than to miss something.

Whiskeypowers · 12/06/2023 16:10

they won’t review you or put on a monitor because of a reading from last Thursday?
that is shocking and completely at odds with everything as expectant mothers we are told to do regarding reporting any change in movements or what maternity services should offer as a result of those worries.

i would contact the PALs office and also call your community midwife and explain. They might well refer you for monitoring and that shouldn’t be queried.

sorry you are being treated like this

CC222 · 12/06/2023 17:02

That's really unacceptable on their behalf. Are you still concerned with reduced movements today? If so, try call triage again. They should be seeing you for a CTG any time you're concerned.
I had repeated reduced movements and was seen every single time. They made it clear to me that I should go every time I'm worried, even if that's every day.
I'm shock to hear how poorly they're treating your concerns of something that is very serious.
I hope they start monitoring you properly now...

momamama · 13/06/2023 10:33

Midwife here. I wouldn't accept that response. We would see someone daily if they were still worried. Please call back triage/day assessment and push to go back in to get another CTG if you are still not happy with movements.

momamama · 13/06/2023 10:36

I'd maybe enlist your community midwife for support. Ask them why they aren't following NICE guideline 201 section 1.2.34.

Whiskeypowers · 25/06/2023 20:56

@rosiebutterfly how are you doing?
