I'm just writing on here incase there's someone who reads this and can give me some advice/experience on the subject.

Me and my partner have been TTC for almost a year now. We were shocked to find out 6 days ago that we are expecting our first child together, going off my last period I should be 6 weeks today but I do have irregular cycles so that may be out by a few days.

I am really trying to get excited about it all but 12 days ago (6 days before BFP) I had surgery under General Anaesthetic to remove my right tonsil, they did offer me a pregnancy test but i'd done one a few days before which had been negative so i declined as thought there was no chance of it happening. I wasn't under for long but it's been playing on my mind since and now I'm worried that the pregnancy will fail or the baby won't be okay. I'm very fatigued with very sore breasts. My recent pregnancy tests have all had stronger darker lines than before and even the digital clearblue test have said i'm further along over the last 6 days so my HCG is clearly rising.

I just thought i'd write this in the hope of similar experiences with positive outcomes.

Tia for any respones xx

Hey Hun,

In 2017 I was assaulted and my jaw was broken. I went to a&e and was transfeffered hospital for surgery. I was taking codiene and any medicine offered. They then done a pregnancy test the next morning and to my surprise it was positive! I was around 4 weeks at the time. They asked if I wanted to proceed with surgery as there is a risk to losing the baby but I went ahead. As horrible as that sounds I couldn't function for 9 months with a broken jaw! I wouldn't be able to eat, would need constant pain relief and my bones would set in the wrong place. So I went ahead. That tiny little baby in my womb at the time is now a big 5 year old boy almost as tall as me and perfectly healthy! Try not to stress I think you'll be fine xx

I'm really surprised they didn't do a pregnancy test before surgery, it wouldn't have mattered to my trust whether you'd had a negative test five Seconds before surgery yourself, if it hasn't been done by us the surgery won't go ahead.

That being said the risk is minimal if you've only just found out you're pregnant.

There are times when it's not going to be possible to put off surgery in a pregnant woman or appendicitis.

@Ttcmumma oh I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you. People can be so awful sometimes. I hope you made a full recovery. I completely understand your choice to go forward with the surgery. It's also very reassuring to hear that your pregnancy went well and you have a son 🥰. Thankyou so much for this. It's made me feel better. I have a three & a half year old daughter and she's very excited that I'm having a baby haha. Xx

@CoachBeardsJane oh do you work in a hospital? I had a student nurse I'm not sure if she just wrote down I declined she just said was I certain I didn't want one and didn't ask again after when I said no. Yeah I'm just trying to keep positive. I spoke to a gp the day I found out as I was meant to start taking some naproxen and said about anaesthesia and she said it shouldn't affect the pregnancy. Thankyou for your response it's put my mind at ease also xx

Yes more or less a full recovery, it was not fun having to eat puree for months while pregnant! But my jaw is back to normal besides some numbness on my lip and chin that I'll probably never get feeling back in.

Yes he's 100% fine and I'm sure your baby will be too! No health issues or anything so doesn't seem to have affected him at all. My pregnancy was smooth after besides non stop Utis but thats got nothing to do with the anesthesia. Easier said than done but try to relax 😊. Fingers crossed for a smooth healthy pregnancy for you x
