Cervix wouldn’t hold Foley balloon for induction

Hi all

so I recently had my 4th baby, I was due to be induced at 38 weeks due to high bp, and due to previous c section and successful foley balloon/catheter induction with my second this was the choice for this induction. However when it came to it, the dr tried 3 (extremely painful) times to get the balloon in, but every time the balloon just popped straight back out, I wasn’t dilated. She would then place the balloon again, fill it with water, but then it would pop back out again. She said it was because I’d given birth previously and had 2 natural big babies one 9 and one 10 pound. She said the consultant would try to fit it but just so happened during the process my daughter turned transverse and so he couldn’t proceed and I ended up with a c section.

I just wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience with their cervix not holding the foley balloon ?

Just means your cervix was a bit stretchy, which is sort of the point of it- to get your cervix to start getting soft and stretchy. Often it stays open a bit and is softer when you've had babies before. Usually if it's popping out it means they can break the waters for the induction.

@KatieYoYo Thanks for you reply. Unfortunately they wasn’t able to break my waters, they said I was 1cm, so my cervix was stretching.. popping back out the balloon and then closing again. They hadn’t pre-warned me this could happen so it was very disheartening as I just expected a successful induction like my second son
