Hey so I've told my direct boss I'm pregnant, which she's done a risk assessment (which was basic as anything for my job but whatever lol) but she's told me I need to notify the HR team that I'm pregnant and send them an email basically telling them I'm pregnant and when I intend to start my maternity leave, I've asked my friends and none of them have had to do this at their jobs, has anyone got any ideas on how to write this it just seems a bit awkward going "I'm pregnant and going on maternity leave on this date" I also have no idea when to go on maternity leave like I'm 16 weeks lol, has anyone had to do this before? If so how'd you do it?

At my work there’s a form to fill in with this info. You enclose a MAT B1 form which you should get at your 20 week scan or a midwife appointment around that time.

Just write something like:

Dear HR

I’m writing to advise you that I am pregnant. My estimated due date is X. I’d like my maternity leave to start from date Y. Please find my MAT B1 form attached.

I just had to inform mine that I was pregnant and they sent me back any relevant forms and policies.

Just write:

Dear HR

Please be aware that I am pregnant and my due date is ….

I will provide you with my MATB1 in due course but please let me know if I need to send you anything else in the meantime.

Totally normal, especially in larger companies. They are the ones that sort out your maternity pay, so they need to know your dates.

Very straightforward and factual - remember these emails are just a normal part of their job and they'll get them fairly regularly (depending on size of organisation)
