Cvs consultation

Hi

I am not a mum but a worried husband.

My wife had the 12 weeks scan and the nt was 3.12 which was considered fine (under 3.5). She went ahead with the blood test as a precaution because of her age (35 almost 36).

The bloods came back with a high chance of ds, 1/2 which was a massive shock. Everything else looks OK.
We had the cvs yesterday (very traumatic but she is a trooper) and the nt came back as 4.3 and we were told after in the consultation to expect the worst.

It has been the worst few days for her, cvs more blood tests and the anti d. We have pretty much come to terms that there is something not rite.

I am just wondering if anyone else has gone through this and if there's any positive outcomes? Or negative?

It is heartbreaking, we were on cloud nine and now it's all doom and gloom.

We find out the results on our wedding anniversary when we are on holiday next week to rub salt into the wound.

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this. I have no experience with your specific scenario, however I have been there going through fetal medicine and finding out something isn't quite right with baby. I've also had a CVS in a subsequent pregnancy, and can completely empathise.
I would suggest checking if Facebook have any groups that are specific to what you're going through. I found one for the condition my son had, and it answered so many questions for myself and my husband.
Sending you both so much love

All you can do is prepare yourself and consider what the results mean for you.

Sorry that you're going through this. There is a separate board on ante natal choices and you might prefer to post there.

I had a CVS a couple of years ago which resulted in a TFMR. The diagnosis was for a more life limiting condition and almost all women terminate as the baby usually dies during pg or shortly after. But DS is different and some parents choose to continue, as the quality of life for DS is better and most survive into adulthood. So there is the choice of whether to terminate at all. There are also decisions to be made about type of termination- I chose a surgical termination, where I was sedated and when I came around I wasn't pregnant any more, and I had no dealings with the fetus. A medical termination involves giving birth to the non living baby and some women dress it and name it, and have a burial, but that wouldn't have been for me at all. There is a charity called ARC which gets recommended on here which has a website with more information and forums, though I didn't need to use it myself as the decisions were quite straightforward.

On the positive side, I got pregnant again soon afterwards and there were no issues with the next pg, and I have a beautiful healthy 14 month old now.

Thanks for the replies.
There is still hope that we have a healthy baby.
The waiting is terrible, they are doing the array test also which will take 10-12 working days. If the baby doesn't have DS then it is a long wait to find out what is wrong. We have nothing against DS. We haven't had the conversation yet as we still do not know the results but we are both well aware we live in a very cruel world.
