4+3 today, 2 previous losses, should I ask for progesterone?

Hello,

I am 4 weeks 3 days pregnant.

I had a ‘chemical pregnancy/early loss’ around 4.5 weeks in February 21. I then went on to have a healthy baby the cycle after and had my full term daughter in December 21. I have now had another ‘chemical pregnancy/early loss’ around 4.5 weeks pregnant again in April 23.

Should I ask my GP to prescribe progesterone for me to help prevent another early loss/miscarriage?

Or are my previous losses likely not to be due to low progesterone because I’ve had a full term baby? Can anyone help/advise?

I’m worrying now that I should have sought help to prevent another early miscarriage.

thanks in advance xx

If you are concerned then I would try and arrange an appointment to discuss it with your GP, unfortunately a lot of doctors won't considering 'recurrent' losses until after 3 losses. They might agree to do bloods and check your hcg and progesterone levels, but again it is often a battle to get them to do it. 🤞 you're gp listens to your concerns.

Hi OP.
Chemical pregnancies happen when the baby isn't viable.
Progesterone will not help with that, unfortunately.

I've been given progesterone this pregnancy after one miscarriage in March 2022, I've had three successful full term pregnancies before. The EPU have said I meet the criteria after one miscarriage. Mine wasn't a chemical but a blighted ovum and miscarried at 10 weeks but tbh there was never really an embryo there but I was still given progesterone. You may be eligible and if it would make you feel better and less worried, and it may help, no harm in asking. I got offered it without asking x

I started the progesterone at 6 weeks x

I've had a scan due to spotting and there is an embryo with a heartbeat there this time, also a perisac bleed which is causing the spotting x

Starting progesterone at six weeks means you'll avoid having it when you have a chemical pregnancy, as they always end between four and five weeks.
