Broken ankle at 37 weeks

Hi, as the title says, I've broken my ankle today and I'm 37.5 weeks pregnant. I'm currently sat at home with a plaster cast on waiting to hear from the fracture clinic in case I need surgery or not. I'm devastated. Just looking to see if anyone else has had a similar experience?
I'm hoping he stays to full term, even better if he's late. My partner has 3 (possibly 4) weeks off work once baby arrives but I'm so worried I'm not going to be able to look after baby properly, or even how I'm going to labour with a cast on. I've not been able to speak to my midwife yet or have had anything back from my antenatal department.

No experience, but sending you a massive handhold, that sounds really tough.

Ah crap that sounds sucky. Does it hurt a lot?

you won’t be the first, I don’t have experience but just replying to give you a middle of the night hug and in the hope someone else replies later.

Its also, where I am, an unpleasantly warm evening both for being pregnant and sleeping with a cast.

You won't be the first, I gave birth with all the fingers on my right hand fractured after a fall at 35+5. It must be something about being off balance when you are so pregnant, I had two other falls around that time. Take it a day at a time & think when baby is born, you have a good excuse to be sat down & waited on for a few weeks.

What kind of floors do you have at home? A friend did similar and she used an office chair to move around on their wooden floors. It worked well.

Wishing you all the best

No advice but poor you, that's absolutely rubbish luck! Hope you're ok Flowers

Morning, thank you for taking the time to reply. Office chair is a good idea!
I think once I get this bulky cast off and get a smaller one on then movement will be easier.

I’m a midwife and I once looked after a lady in labour with a cast on. We taped a bin bag over her cast but sadly we did get poo on it somehow. But the plaster room people came to labour ward afterwards and replastered there. She managed to be fairly mobile on the bed, kneeling over back of bed, on all fours, etc. good luck.

I imagine you can manage with a newborn and a broken leg fairly easily if you could set up a base near a bathroom and kitchen (maybe Livingroom) then have somewhere safe to put the baby down while you nip to do stuff.

Definitely inconvenient but I think it would be trickier if they were older and able to move around more
