Birthing pools advice !

I really want to labour in a birthing pool this time! Going to ask my midwife if I can request that as my due date is in two weeks!

Do birthing pools ease labour pains?

Do birthing pools help labour?

What happens if you delivered baby in the pool would they stop breathing?

I gave birth both times in a pool. I loved it.

I found the pain relief amazing. I know some women have found it slowed their labour down, but I didn't get in until I was very far progressed so that wasn't the case for me. In fact I think stepping over the high sides of the pool helped. Both times it was such a relief to get in the water.

Your baby is currently surrounded by fluid so being born into water is the same. I can't remember about how the breathing bit works (my youngest is 10 so it was a while ago) but I know it's fine!

I've had two home water births. Both very good positive experiences! For myself I had prepped / planned in good time before my due date (it was set up ready to go from 34 weeks) will you hire or buy a birthing pool? It might be advisable to look into it / buy / hire now so you can get to grips with the inflating, setting up and filling before the big day.

The pool helped me but I love baths anyway. Do you find baths help at the moment with easing aches and pains?

The pool is similar environment to the womb so the reflex which triggers them to take their first breath doesn't happen until they're out of the water. 😊

Good luck!

I gave birth in a birthing pool at the hospital. Would recommend and will request again this time. It gave a lot of pain relief for me but like PP said I was very far along when I got in - 8cm and I gave birth approx 1 hour later x

I would absolutely recommend it. I didn’t get in until I was ready to push as the midwives were taking their time filling it and I was progressing quicker than expected. But I got in and midwives just said trust my body it knows what to do. It was so relaxing. I did have gas and air too but she came out quite quickly. I wasn’t in there long. Babies wouldn’t stop breathing because they don’t take their first breath until they’re born. You just take them straight out of the water and they take their first breath. Literally a couple of seconds longer than being born out of the water.
