Hey all

had my anatomy scan 20 weeks 3 days yesterday and everything was normal, the only thing was his / hers abdomen was measuring in the 93rd percentile - what does this mean? My main concern is does it mean anything to worry about? The sonographer said she has no concerns, haven’t got any additional scans booked. I’m just being a worrier lol

attached picture of said nugget :) idk if anyone can guess gender from that but feel free to, we’re leaving it as a surprise but im certain it’s a boy
thank you

Mine said the same with femur at something like 17th centile.

Not sure what exactly you're asking but the centile is, in very basic terms, the percentage of same-aged babies yours is bigger than. E.g your baby's abdomen is larger than 93% of same-aged baby abdomens.

Measurements at this stage are actually pretty unreliable so the bracket of what is considered normal is huge.

If the sonographer had no concerns then I don't think you need to either.

Yeah... If you don't believe the sonographer... Why believe a random on the internet?

It’s saddening to think making others feel bad is something worth your time, I hope things get better for you

Of 100 babies, yours is the 93rd largest. For that area anyway. Did she not explain?

cheshirecatssmile · 07/06/2023 12:00

My granddaughter on her scans had a big belly. Can't remember the figures
No one was worried
Further growth scans were done for a separate reason
She was born 3 weeks early 4lb 8 and a skinny Minnie!
Half the time it's the way they are positioned in the womb when doing the scan.
One of the scans showed one leg shorted than the other 🙄
No she has 2 perfect little legs

Easier said than done but try not to worry!

DD had a large abdomen all through the pregnancy and for me, it meant that they wanted to keep checking for gestational diabetes as that can be a tell tale sign. I never did have it and DD was born looking completely normal and healthy :)

So far you have a lovely healthy baby☺️

Congratulations

Mummyme87 · 07/06/2023 12:15

It’s not relevant at 20weeks. Don’t worry

caringcarer · 07/06/2023 13:09

If the sonographer is not worried, there is no need for you to worry.

Spottypineapple · 07/06/2023 13:38

No need to worry if sonographer not worried of course.

You need a 'potty shot' at that gestation but from the skull I would guess boy

Littlelighthouse · 08/06/2023 00:22

My DD was measuring consistently on the 50th percentile for everything until 28 weeks when she jumped to 95th+ for abdomen and head. It turned out I had gestational diabetes (not saying this is the case for you).
I managed the GD and she stayed consistently on this line. We were told she'd be over 9lb at birth, but she was 8lb 6oz.
She's now 10 months old and is on the 50th percentile again and has been since shortly after birth.
These growth measurements are known for being inaccurate - my consultant actually told me that herself!

Blue2020 · 08/06/2023 08:28

From the skull I would hazard a guess at a boy.

Likethestarsabove547 · 08/06/2023 10:34

Means honestly nothing.
My DC had a massive belly on the scans and still has a bit of a bigger tummy now. Nothing wrong nothing to worry about.
You could be right on the gender.
Little boys can be quite swollen on their bits when born then it goes down so maybe that can happen in the belly too.
Like PP have said if no concerns have been flagged then don't worry. They will investigate even the smallest thing if worried
