35 weeks with period pain / feeling like I’m going to start period

I was induced with my first so not sure what natural labour pain is, with induction after a sweep I got instant heavy period pains and started to contract 30 minutes later so was fairly intense.

anyway, got that heavy / about to start period pain low down and lower back, doesn’t seem to go being in any different position.

Do I need to worry about it being early labour or is this normal at this gestation? Again didn’t have it with my first or it went if I lay down etc.

Thanks!

Sounds like it could be braxton hicks? If it continues regularly I'd go an get a check up just to be safe.

That was how I felt at the start of labour (don’t want to alarm you)

I would contact your midwife or gp

I'd call your maternity unit. Aches and pains are normal but if its not going with chnaging position i would call. Tell them you've taken paracetamol though else that will be the first thing they tell you to try 🙄

Hazelnuttella · 07/06/2023 10:58

That’s not what my braxton hicks felt like. Mine was a tightening across the front of my bump and bump went hard.

It could just be the baby moving further down and things stretching out a bit.

But yes, what you’re describing is similar to what the start of my labour was like too. Period pains at first and then stronger.

I’ve been having braxton hicks where they tighten and go, this just feels heavy period pain all down low and backs

I’ll take paracetamol and monitor and then phone if I’ve still got them, I expect they would get worse if it’s labour rather than just movement from baby.

It is probably best contacting your midwife period type pain is can be a proper contraction.

DelilahBucket · 07/06/2023 11:08

That was how labour started for me at 36 +5. Mine didn't start to get worse until 24 hours later. My waters didn't break, the midwife had to break them at hospital two days later.

At 35 weeks you need to call sooner rather than later. Monitoring yourself at 35 weeks is a bad idea because if it is labour you could progress really quickly.

endofthelinefinally · 07/06/2023 11:10

And your baby might need attention.

Mrsjayy · 07/06/2023 11:15

You could also have a UTI I had pre term labours because of urine Infections can you not just contact the midwife and see what they say its better to get checked sooner rather than later.

Thanks all,

I phoned and was told to wait and see for a while longer if it gets worse to call back ASAP but they didn’t seem concerned so will give it few more hours.
