Worried about weak cervix

Hi all, I’m currently 12+1 and experienced a bright red bleed at 11 weeks, it tapered off fairly soon after and have been having yellowy/brown discharge ever since. For the last 24 hours or so I’ve been experiencing discomfort in my pelvic region, the only way I can describe it is like the feeling of having a smear test and also similar to having an uncomfortably full bladder. It’s not pain as such but not a nice feeling.

I had a private scan the day after my bleed as the EPU wouldn’t see me and the midwife sonographer said she couldn’t see a bleed anywhere in the uterus and so it was likely cervical ectropion. I’ve managed to get a GP appointment for Wednesday and I’m planning to ask them to check my cervix for ectropion. I also have an obstetrician appointment next week as part of my high-risk care and I want to discuss the possibility of being monitored in case of a weak cervix and just wondered if anyone had had that monitored without having a second or third trimester loss?

I had two surgical abortions when I was much, much younger. As far as I know I have no injury or issues stemming from those but I know cervical trauma can cause weakening. On one hand I feel like I’m overreacting but the pressure feeling, bleed and subsequent discharge are making me more nervous. I also really don’t want to have to find out that I have a weak cervix the hard way… I’m so, so grateful to have made it to 12 weeks after suffering a previous loss but I’m just finding things incredibly difficult today so just looking for anyone else with a similar experience or advice.

Thanks x

i don’t want to scaremonger but I would agree it’s worth getting checked - I had a surgical termination for medical reasons and then discovered I had cervical insufficiency in my next pregnancy (sadly too late).

In retrospect I suspected something was wrong and wish I had pushed for a cervical scan. Very likely all is fine for you, but worth checking if you’re worried.

(Following on from my losses, I had two successful pregnancies with cervical cerclages).

Thanks for replying @SarahLucSc and so sorry to hear about your losses before your two successful pregnancies. Definitely not scaremongering, it's so useful to hear the experience of others because it's an absolute minefield on google.

Do you mind sharing the concerns you had prior to your loss? No problem if you're not comfortable sharing that. I also just wondered how many weeks you were when the cerclage was put in?

I had a heavy dragging feeling in my pelvis and just felt something wasn’t right. I find it hard to explain!

I twice had cerclages put in at 13/14 weeks and removed at 37 weeks. Internal scans at 13/14 weeks showed that my cervix was already shortening so it was definitely the right call for me,
