Bleeding from rectum - anyone else? TMI

26 weeks today

Sorry this is all a bit TMI… have been so constipated last few months, not not going at all, but small, unsatisfying poos every few days. Last few days it’s felt uncomfortable. Did a very small poo today, not at all difficult to pass, but just bleeding so much (it’s definitely from the back and not the front!). Toilet water bright red, awful on the tissue and actually a few clot like bits, also got some blood on my sleeve which is mortifying! I’ve been careful over the last few weeks not to strain to much but I will have been doing so a bit

I had this to a much lesser extent before pre pregnancy so not overly worried. Last time it was a tear close to the surface, this time I don’t have any noticeable pain.

anyway, whilst I’m fairly relaxed it would also be helpful to that bleeding to this extent isn’t just me and get confirmation that this has absolutely no effect on the baby! Not sure worth contacting the GP as not sure they’ll be able to do anything?!

Are you taking laxatives or a stool softener? Sounds likely that you have an anal fissure that's bleeding related to your constipation. Walk as much as you can and drink loads of water, aim for 5-7 a day fruit and veg portions.
Movicol and lactulose are safe in pregnancy, maybe visit a pharmacy so you don't need to wait on a GP

Always see the GP with any rectal bleeding.

I've been having this too!!! I thought I was the only one! I did assume it was related to the pregnancy tho as I am pretty constipated, have past issues with piles anyway and its quite sore down there! It only happens to me occasionally with my first bowel movement tho and its not a lot of blood. If its a lot of blood and its every time you go, I'd go see your GP just to check its defo a fissure and nothing else.

Could also be piles! Ain’t motherhood charming?!

I had a rectal bleed, one off, about two months ago. Like you it was very bright red. Mine had no accompanying pain. The NHS website advised that if there was no pain and the blood was bright red, the best course of action was to leave it and only go to GP if there it happened again.

I hope you are ok, I found it quite frightening at the time, but was reassured by the advice on the NHS website.

bright red? probably a hemmoroid or a fissure. dark brown.. get you to the doctor. bowel cancer survivor.. if it looks like old blood you need to see doc

Go asap to your doctor.
