Just curious to know whether anyone has followed Gowri Motha's Gentle Birth Method and if so what your opinions are. Did it help you have a better pregnancy/labour?

I just bought the book on Ebay and am thinking I should try and get myself "birth fit".

I haven't but my friend took great comfort from the book when she was expecting her 2nd child after a very difficult 1st labour and birth.

Hope it does the same for you

Hi im 29wks and im kind of following the book which I borrowed from my fiances sister. She highly recommends it, she had a very good labour (only 6 hours) and birth with her first baby, with no need for drugs / stiches / medical intervention etc etc. Im only about a quarter of the way though but everyting in it makes complete sense to me afterall giving birth is no walk in the park and its very demanding on your body. Im not taking too much notice of the diet stuff as love my carbs too much, but i am trying to eat healthly, i walk twice a day and do 2-3 sessions of yoga a week. ive been having massages and reflexolgy and im also going to start the perineal massage in the next few weeks which has been proven to reduce the risk of tears or the need to have an episotomy (sorry havent spelt that right!) and im def. up for all the visulisation stuff. one thing ive been told to visulise during labour is that each contraction is like a serious of waves in the sea that are bringing your baby closer to you - cute eh? I know everyone will cope differently but if there are things that you can do to prepare yourself for the big day then why not give it a go. Good luck with the book. smile

Hello.

I am 'sort of' following it as well.
Cut out wheat and sugar. There are loads of alternatives.
Having reflexology and ayervedic massages.
Also walking lots and yoga.
Plus all the herbal teas etc..

I can't say I am feeling fantastic but I had quite a bad illness at beg of pregnancy that really knocked me. I also had really bad morning sickness.

20 weeks now and Gentle Birth Method is my bedtime reading!!! I really want to be birth fit as well!

Must say tho' that I am DETERMINED that this birth will be easier than my last one so I think if you told me I had to walk across fire for an easy labour I would.

Hope it works for you - good luck.

Hi, I got the book, started following it carefully in terms of diet, and gave up about 20 weeks as like my food far too much. Also investigated going for the treatments and buying the supplements, but it does work out quite expensive. Found the visualisation idea good, but didn't have enough in the book ( for me and DH) so decided to spend the fortune doing the treatments/supplements would be,doing a Hypnobirthing course instead! So, I found it interesting to read but not quite do-able for me, but has lead me onto Hypnobirthing which I'm really glad I've done, but not due for another 9 weeks.
Did have a friend who didn't have any trouble following the diet, or paying for the treatments, but found working( part time, for herself) and actually getting to the treatments really stressful so stopped going to all the appointments by 34 weeks. To find suitable practitioners local to her she did end up doing a fair bit of travelling.
Oh, forgot I'm doing daily yoga (not whats in the book, but I figure its about doing something rather than nothing) and constantly intending to exercise more!
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
