Cervical Stitch - anyone? Preventative, not emergency

Hello!

Had a cervical stitch placed at 16 weeks, preventative due to history.

wondering what other peoples recovery was like, and level of activity in the following weeks/months?

also on 400mg progesterone twice daily

Thanks so much, would be great to hear from someone who has had this.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but I was intrigued what was the length of your cervix when they did the preventative stitch?
I was told I would be needing one as well due to shortening cervix in my previous pregnancy x

I had an emergency stitch placed in first pregnancy at 22 weeks, got to 35 weeks on bed rest. Had a pre pregnancy stitch with my second, stitch held like a champ but then become poorly and delivered at 37 weeks. Had a c section with both. Had cyclogest both times, happy to answer any questions!

@Lillybobs86 sorry for slow response. I was offered preventative stitch regardless of cervical length due to sudden preterm dilation and labour in previous pregnancy. Like a prophylactic treatment I guess! x

@Keepitrealnomists thanks so much for your response. How active were you second time around with the stitch? I’m also on cyclogest 400mg x 2 per day. Nearing viability now and struggling with the anxiety - noticing every little twinge!

I had an emergency one at 23w with a very short cervix, twin pregnancy, history of pre term loss and a whole raft of other complications. Had that and cyclogest and some how managed to get to 35w. Twins will be 10 this year! Happy to answer any questions.

I had a preventative one after having an emergency one that failed in a previous pregnancy , also had progesterone

I had to do school runs and also had a 1 year old to run round after at the time so was pretty active

Stitch came out at 35 weeks and I had an elective csection at 37 weeks

Hi! I had a cervical stitch for my last pregnancy (quite a few years ago now!). (It was a Shirodker stitch which I think is slightly different to the macdonald).
Once I was discharged, I was told not to worry and so just pretty much carried on as normal……
went to work, looked after my 2 yo son, walked the dog, moved house. I didn’t take a lot of risks but I wasn’t on bed rest either).

I did have some very strange, fairly painful nerve pains at about 24-27 weeks (they lasted a night or two) but nobody was that bothered when I told them.
however when they came to take the stitch out at 35 weeks I was 2cm dilated and the stitch had cut into my cervix …. So I guess the stitch did its job! ( my daughter didn’t arrive til I was 41 weeks).

i had a confirmed weak cervix so there was no way I could carry a baby to full term without the stitch in place …. I was told if I could get to 28 weeks with no problems then I’d go full term - which I didn’t quite believe at the time.

what I would say is go get checked out if you feel unsure or any stranger than usual happenings. Don’t worry that you’re making a fuss. And if you want to take it steady and err on the side of caution and lie on the sofa for the next few months then do then do what is best for you.

what have the consultants advised?

It is scary but I’m sure the stitch will do its job.

good luck with the rest of your pregnancy 💕💕
