Are side-sleepers that rock a bad idea?

Hi everyone , currently 35 weeks pregnant and looking at bedroom side sleeper and Moses basket. I’ve seen a few options that rock. Just wondering if this is a good idea or could the baby become too dependent on the rocking motion?

Does it matter if they become dependent as they'll be able to sleep there? Moses basket that rocks has been lovely for my baby he is almost too big now! I didn't have a rocking bedside cot but a few times wished I did

That is true. I am just trying to work out if I will still be able to get the baby to sleep if I don’t have a rocking option tho? E.g. when they move to their cot in their own room. Or in the car etc?

I’ve read some threads that have said the rocking works so well that the baby won’t sleep without it!

But I can definitely see the benefit that it would help baby sleep quicker which might be a lifesaver for me!

I had a SNOO with DS, it's a crib that automatically rocks, he didn't become dependent on it but then he didn't really need it to sleep well(ish).

DD might have become dependent on it but if that mean that she actually SLEPT for the first 6-10 months of her life then it would have been worth it. She was very dependent on boobing to sleep but that's because she was a terrible sleeper and nearly nothing else worked, people don't tend to get their kids hooked of things for no reason (I think/hope)

Rocked my baby. My arm just worked independently of me, I’m sure I did it even while asleep. My baby only slept with motion, in he pram or carrier. Only stopped crying in the bouncer.

Youll always have a way to rock them to soothe them- you can rock them by holding them and bouncing, putting them in pram for a walk (a rockit on pram works well) or having a rocking chair to put them to sleep in. The main concern about snoo etc is the huge price! I generally cuddle or rock my baby to sleep and them put him down for first few months now he is four months I'm trying to do routine and then put him down awake and lay him to sleep instead.

Babies are already born dependent on a rocking motion as they are used to your movements. The first few weeks/months can be very exhausting depending on how baby sleeps so if it helps them settle and you can afford out then definitely do it.

If you breastfeed most babys fall asleep on the boob anyway. No rocking required.

I don’t think I ever rocked dc to get them to sleep. They do like rocking in general though and find it quite soothing.

That’s true. I’m just wondering if I then put them into their Moses basket and they wake up right away as they’re not on me would the rocking maybe soothe them to fall asleep again?
