Anyone else had a sudden increase in movements?

Hi all - I'm currently 30 weeks with baby measuring small. Yesterday evening for several hours she was going crazy in there compared to normal - movements every few seconds and all very strong visible ones. I have an anterior placenta and normally only feel light movements periodically in the day.

Maternity triage asked me to go in and didn't seem ecstatic with the CTG, which I was on for about an hour or so, but said as it had met the criteria I would probably be more comfortable at home. They told me to come back straightaway that night or after if I noticed any regular tightening(!) and I'd need to have an ultrasound in two weeks.

After a while at home things settled a bit and I got some sleep, and this morning I think I've felt a few light movements more like normal.

Has anyone else ever had a sudden increase in movements? Can it be a one off and settle? The reference to tightening panicked us a bit. I'm now also paranoid about looking out for movement today. Thanks for any experiences!

A more normal day yesterday which was a relief. Just hoping she can stay in there as long as possible.

At 29weeks mine went from mostly gentle kicks every evening to more prominent kicks/movements all throughout the day. I wouldn’t say it was frantic like yours sounded, more that it was more prominent and also throughout the day which was unusual for him but I assumed it was just him getting bigger. It lasted for 7-10days. Then all of a sudden when I was 31weeks I had a day of no movements (or infrequent gentle movements). I went to Mac, my baby then failed every ctg (although the midwives said the ctg’s looked ok and I did feel odd movements). Growth scan showed he was ok. The doctors advised I stay in for monitoring for a day due to not enough accelerations, he continued to fail the ctg’s but there was nothing worrying there. Long story short my bp spiked while I was in hospital, I was monitored and had medication over the next 3 weeks.

So as a side point of going for reduced movements (which he then went back to his usual evening pattern) they had caught my bp while I was in and found I had the start of preeclampsia, I then had my baby at 35+0 by emcs when both of us started to get worse that day (it happened quickly).

When I was 33weeks and had another short stay in hospital with my bp they decided to monitor him with the ctg. At one point the midwife tried to poke/gently shake the bump because he was asleep for a long time. I then had the frantic 5-7minutes of large very quick frantic movements. Both of us wondered what was happening. He finally settled and the ctg showed he was doing ok. I think it was him moving from being in one position to another. I only say this because by 34weeks the doctor considered induction and said he was engaged which he wasn’t previously. So it could be your baby moving position?

If ever you are ever unsure though keep going in. They told me they would rather see me (or anyone) frequently and it be nothing than me waving it off.

I had a day where baby was really active from waking up until late afternoon. I went to maternity assessment and he was monitored most of the day before being sent home. Everything was fine, they just made some comment like "baby's having a party in there". Next day movements were back to normal strength and frequency. No idea what caused the change but it was short lived and never experienced anything like it again before baby arrived with us.
