Miscarriage inevitable?

Hi all! First time poster so sorry if I’m doing this wrong! 😣

Im just wanting to hear if anyone has been in a similar situation and what their outcome was.

I’m 6 months PP and currently breastfeed my son if that makes any difference in all of this. My LMP was the 12th April, I tested on Monday 8th May it was negative, I tested again on the Friday the 12th of May, the day my period was due and got a very faint line and 1-2 on a CB test, from the following Monday ( 15th) I had bloods and a scan, my bloods showed a HCG level of 114 and the scan showed a tiny cyst like pocket that she couldn’t measure, I continued to get bloods which showed a nice double each time with a repeat scan on the 25th which showed a bigger gest sac with a slight yolk sac forming, they also noticed I had a bleed surrounding my sac and told me I measured 5 weeks, so they told me to come back for a repeat scan in 2 weeks time. Exactly a week later so today, I went for a private scan to be told I’m measuring 5 weeks 3 days but now with a defined yolk sac and a fetal pole with a heart beat, the bleed is still very much there. Is a miscarriage inevitable at this point with the bleed and slow growth? How can I have a 3 day growth in 7 days?

My clear blue skipped 2-3 and went straight to 3+ on the 20th of May so surely that would mean I was 5 weeks then?

Any help would be much appreciated 😩 Thankyou!!

Easily - early pregnancy scans are a minefield and they are often several days out.

(In any case, you haven't waited the two weeks suggested - I am not sure why you had another scan only a week after the one on 25th May?)

Is a miscarriage inevitable at this point with the bleed and slow growth?

Not at all - the is called a subchorionic haematoma and it's very common. Most women who have them go on to have healthy pregnancies.

The slow growth isn't slow growth - it's just the usual variation seen in early scans.

No, it just means that you were 5 weeks or more when you tested. In fact, from your LMP you're 7 weeks, but going by when you got a positive pregnancy test, you're between 5 - 6 weeks. You must have ovulated later in your cycle. Breastfeeding would certainly account for this.

Did you have a lot of miscarriages before you had your little boy? Is that why you've had so many blood tests and scans?

Thankyou for your reply, I didn’t wait the full 2 weeks because I’ve had quite traumatic experiences with my pregnancies so like to know where I’m at, I suffer severe PPA with my little boy and I’m sure that doesn’t help. Thankyou for the reassurance regarding the slow growth, I’ve heard bleeds can be common and usually rectify themselves but I’ve never had good news with one, so my anxiety is quite high. I was thinking I may of ovulated later but obviously wasn’t tracking so couldn’t be sure! I’ve got a long history of miscarriages and had a very very eventual pregnancy and birth with my little boy so they want to keep a close eye on me, thanks again for your reply 😊

Oh, I'm so sorry. I had a lot of miscarriages as well, and being pregnant is very scary.
You haven't actually bled, which is a really good sign.

It's normal to panic like this, I think. I was the same.

Have you got a date for your next NHS scan? I hope very much that you'll get reassuring news then.

It's really scary, when you've lost a lot of babies.

I'll keep you in my thoughts. Please update when you can.

Bleeding with a SCH is expected though. It's not a bad sign in itself.

Leo227 · 01/06/2023 17:51

I had a sch with pretty horrendous bleeding but it still worked out fine. 0.1mm out on the screen at this stage would make such a big difference it's really hard to get dating accurate. hopefully in the next week or two you will continue normal progression :)

You’re right! It’s such an anxious time, only time will tell I suppose, my next NHS scan is this Thursday (9th) so will post a update when I’ve been. Thankyou so much!

@Whataretheodds

no of course not, but when paired with other factors it’s very hard to think positively 😣

@Leo227

Im sorry you had to go through that but I’m so happy to hear it worked out for you. I can only hope the same happens for me! I’m hoping because this one was abdominal rather than transvaginal like the NHS one the measurements may not have been as accurate but maybe that’s just wishful thinking haha. Thanks so much :)
