Bouncer - electric swing Vs natural

Hi

I don't know whether an electric rocker / swing with vibrations etc is better or a natural bouncer. Or are they for different stages of development.

I didn't have either. Not essential

I found the foldable baby bjorn the most useful as it could pack out the way and move around the house easily. It was somewhere to put baby down when I went to the loo! We did have a swing but it did get in the way.

the baby bjorn is expensive new so recommend getting it second hand!

neither are sleep safe so I also found the swing annoying as if she fell asleep in it I needed to stop it swinging and get her out and she’d inevitably wake up in that time

I also had the baby bjorn, my babies loved it from tiny up to toddler and was so handy to move about as its light.

Not sure how true it is but I also heard that some babies get so used to the electric rockers they struggle sleeping without the rocking.

We had a bouncer and someone bought us a swing.

We used the bouncer much more.

The swing was good for 10 minutes peace every now and again but for the amount of space it takes up I’m not sure it’s worth it. I’m also less confident about using it with a toddler close by 2nd time round.

And tbh baby preferred the sling over all other baby holding gadgets.

I'd wait untill the baby is here, it's the kind of thing that mums want to get rid of when they are grown out of so they are easy to pick up. Neither of my children were fussed about them, one wanted to sit upright and the other wanted to be held.

We had the Baby bjorn one and my DD loved it but I did have to bounce it with my foot so an automatic one might be more convenient. We did use it every day from a few weeks old until about 8 months and took it on holiday once so it was a good buy for us.

I bought the Joie Sansa which pretty much does it all.

It has an electric base which will sway the seats side to side or back and forth or both in like an S motion. The speed is variable, it also has a battery compartment which will make the chair vibrate it also has white noise and nature sounds as well as lullabies. Best of all the seat actually comes off the base and can be used as a rocker. The harness is also a 5 point harness which means you get much longer use out of the seat, my 17 month old twins still like to use their seats so they have been well worth the money.

If there was one item I had to buy again for my twins it would definitely be this! It was so useful in the early days when I could settle one in the chair while feeding the other.

Thanks all! This was the insight I needed! Really overwhelming when faced with so many options

Another one for Baby Bjorn - it rocks itself gently using baby movements, our LO loves it and the toy that comes with it and would sit happily in it watching us do stuff. Got ours second hand.

PinkPlantCase · 01/06/2023 16:09

Isn’t the baby Bjorn one over £150? OP our baby bouncer was about £12 from Argos. Did the job pretty well, no complaints.

Moni81 · 01/06/2023 16:20

I would suggest swing rather than bouncer and buy second hand as you don't know if baby likes it plus you use it like 5 months only. Most are battery operated but some with main connection. You can get real bargains on marketplace or shpock. I got fisher price prescious planet tall swing with different directions swinging and mobile. Also got mamas and papas starlight, each cost me £10 and perfectly working order and condition, don't mind even throwing it away after lol.

We used babybjorn, every day for 2 years. It’s converts from baby bouncer to toddler seat. Folds flats so stored under sofa when not in use. It’s one of one seats with higher weight limit and that can be used once baby can roll as others tip

I liked how lightweight it was, so far easier to just fold and carry with one hand and baby in other arm.

Blue2020 · 01/06/2023 19:33

I bought both, so far we have used the bouncer while the swing is still new in the box ready to be returned. We don’t really have space for it all - the bouncer, pushchair and the playmat take a lot, and we need space to walk around.

Blue2020 · 01/06/2023 19:35

I have an 8 week old and only just bought the items.

Moni81 · 01/06/2023 19:57

@Blue2020 that's why when buying travel system I was really focused on how narrow and small it folds with seat on so I can keep it in porch rather than cluttering living room. Carrycot for whatever short and occasional use will be stored under stair storage and car seat obviously in car. So that's out of way. Swing takes a bit of space especially that I plan to use taller one in living room as I have dog and can't have it too low ground with newborn. However with experience my previous kids when they started to crawl and walk around furnitures(which was quite early in their case) no swing, bouncers, seats etc interested them anymore lol, so it's only temporary gadget.
