private NIPT and NHS amnio?

I am about to book a private NIPT (because of my age, haven't yet done the NT combined test). If the private NIPT result comes back high risk for one of the trisomies, will I be able to get amnio/CVS through NHS?

Yes. NIPT is accurate but it isn't a diagnostic test so NHS (and anyone else) would not give a diagnosis on the results of an NIPT alone. You'd do NHS amnio/CSV and if that is positive, then it would be considered a firm diagnosis. That is in my trust (London), at least, but I cannot discount the risk it is handled differently somewhere else. Also, if you are told "no" the first time by the NHS, it is ok to insist. They sometimes have their wires crossed (I wanted CVS instead of NIPT following high risk combined test, was told 'no', went in for NIPT and was offered CVS) and are actually pretty accommodating, at least if you have good reason, like a positive NIPT/combined screening result.

Best of luck and I hope it is a good result for you. There is an antinatal testing board on Mumsnet that is a great resource around this (and other) testing.

I arranged a private nipt at Chelsea at westminsters Kensington wing after being told my baby's nuchal fluid was too thick at 12 weeks, then the next day got a call saying my blood test results meant I was eligible for the nhs to pay for it, so they basically paid my bill for me (luckily I hadn't paid it as card machine wasn't working!)
If it's ok nhs they don't tell you the sex of the baby even though they know- weird but it's the rules
