SGA baby

Does anyone have any experience with SGA babies? Or current pregnancy is classed as SGA? I don't really know what I'm even asking here.. just wondering if anyone else would share their stories really I guess.. or any advice 🫣

My first baby was born at 41w+1 - induction due to being overdue which I accepted - I was young and didn't know that I was 'allowed' to decline this - 8lb 1oz - 40th centile.
my second baby was born at 41w - induced due to reduced movements twice in the same week and also being overdue etc - 7lb 1oz - 3rd centile - he was estimated over 9lbs but as he was born at 7lb 1oz he was classed as SGA but I had no idea?

I went to my normal midwife app last week (31 weeks) and my fundal height measurement had dropped 2 centiles, this is when my midwife noticed I should have been having extra scans and consultation apps for SGA babies, which I said I didn't have an SGA baby as I never in a million years believed that 7lb 1oz could be classed as low birth weight but here we are.. anyways, I went in for a CTG to check baby on Saturday which was perfect and then I was booked in for an emergency scan which I had today, everything seems perfect except baby is measuring on the 3rd centile.

I am now being scanned every 2 weeks to keep and eye on baby and have my first consultant app in 2 weeks time after my scan. I was told today that if baby drops below the 3rd centile that I would be induced early, would be consultants decision how early, if she stayed on the 3rd centile I would be 'allowed' to go to 39 weeks, and if her weight picked up I would be 'allowed' to go to term. There was also talks of Fetal medicine getting involved if her weight didn't follow 3rd centile or increase..

after this I came out of the hospital in such a flap, I honestly never thought that 7lbs would be classed as low birth weight but trying to keep my cool as baby 2 was born on the 3rd centile and he was fine and perfectly healthy..

After speaking with another mum who is currently having her third SGA baby she told me you don't actually have to be induced for this, which I had no idea as the way I was spoke to today it was as if that is what needed to happen.

I am going to do my own research now and ask questions at my consultant app in two weeks time.

Hiya, I'm 19 weeks with my third SGA baby.

My first two(12 & 10 now) were both born 10 days late and both weighed 6lb 15oz.

I thought that was a great weight as I'm quite petite. Although these were both classed as 1st centile.

I wasn't ever offered an induction, I had plenty of scans, if I remember correctly it was from about 28-30 weeks these started, and was told to take my hospital bag to each scan incase they needed to intervene.

This pregnancy I've been out on aspirin which I've been told should help with blood flow etc and help babies weight.

Hope everything goes well 👶

I had an SGA baby - she was actually considered IUGR in the end. She steadily dropped centiles all through the second half of my pregnancy and at my 37w scan, she had dropped below the 9th centile so i was offered induction at 39w. I accepted the induction, but i actually went into spontaneous labour at 37w+6 and she was born at 38w weighing 5lbs 12oz. I had been taking asprin as high risk for pre-eclampsia and i stopped taking it at 36w, then i developed pregnancy hypertension literally overnight, so i do think this might have contributed to her speedy arrival!

It's true you dont have to accept an induction but my view was that there was clearly an issue somewhere for her weight to be steadily dropping so i thought that she was better out than in. I was worried that perhaps there was an issue with the placenta or cord blood flow and i didnt want to risk waiting too long. I think next time though, i would consider a CS over an induction. I was lucky as my spontaneous labour was quite smooth and fast (although DD was very poorly afterwards with sepsis), but obviously inductions can be tricky and I think i might prefer to go for a section instead.

I think listen to the doctors but try not to worry. My last baby was measuring on 85th centile for head and belly all the way thru pregnancy and I had a growth scan 3 days before I had her which predicted she'd weigh 8lbs. She was 5lbs 13 and promptly diagnosed IUGR. There are often millimetres of difference between a healthy and suboptimal measurement. You can't change what's happening so try to relax and take advice. Best of luck to you

Hey, I'm currently pregnant with my 4th baby. I'm still going through SGA now.
My first daughter, born 2008, weighed 6lbs1
My second daughter, born 2014, weighed 7lbs6
My son, born in 2021, weighed 9lbs6

When I was pregnant with my son, I was constantly going for growth scans.nobody told me why. I could only assume it was because of my eldest daughter.

When I gave birth to my son, I asked the midwife and she said it was die to My eldest

Anyway like I said I'm currently pregnant (12+2) and again I'm going through growth scans throughout my pregnancy. To be fair I don't understand why. All my pregnancies have gone up in weight. With my son being the biggest.

They can’t decide if my son is SGA or FGR he’s in the 4th centile and they’ve pushed for induction for safety tomorrow at 37+1.
I was really unsure whether to accept or decline but after a lengthy chat with a doctor who went over all our questions we decided in his case he’s better in than out.
Current estimated weight is 5lb 2oz.

Iv had 2 SGA/IUGR babies induced both times at 37 weeks and both my girls were 5lb 3oz 2nd centile.

I was of the mindset to get them out and feed them up, worked for me!
