I had my second baby 4 weeks ago (tomorrow). I would have what I'd say was normal lochia (bleeding) for 2.5 weeks and then it seemed to stop and just be discharge cor a few days. A week ago bright red blood came back and I've have spotted ever since. I have told midwife who wasnt concerned, thought it was probably cos of baby cluster feeding and just my womb having one more clear out. However I've just realised it's happening when I pass a bowel movement! (But definitely not coming from that end!) And other odd times too like the morning. I didn't mention it was happening when I pass a bowel movement to midwife as hadn't made that connection then. Anyway, I'm a bit worried, anyone else experienced this?

It's normal. The pressure/movement of opening your bowels, will be pressing correspondingly on your womb. Bit like a tube of toothpaste. Same reason women often poo whilst pushing in labour.

If you're feeling otherwise well, no marked discomfort, smell or fever, it's normal for it to take a wee while to tail off. Up to 6 weeks is common/expected.

I had this OP! Similar to you, bleeding went to a light lochia after 2 weeks, then at 3 weeks came back with a vengeance with a few small clots for days, also when passing a bowel movement. I did consult the midwives and they told me it’s normal unless I’m passing clots bigger than a 50p, or there’s a strange smell. I ended up wearing pads until 6 weeks when the bleeding eventually stopped. It feels like it never will and everyone is different, but it does stop eventually!

Thanks so much for your reply, that's really reassuring to read.

Thank you! Reassuring to read. I didn't have this with my first so I have been concerned.
