Hi everyone, I hope you’re all well. I’m looking for some advice really. I’m 29 weeks pregnant and struggling with a few things and I feel as if work is making things worse. I’m struggling with pelvic girdle pain which keeps me up most nights it’s really painful and I’m waddling when I walk, I have gestational diabetes also so I’m trying to keep in top of all of that and I’m also feeling quite anxious at the moment about so many different things, I’m so tired and feel as if I just need some time off. Would it be acceptable to get a doctors note to give to my employer to allow me to take time off? Would the doctor understand, would my employer understand? Btw, I work in an office so I do sit down most of the day but the work is pretty hectic and stressful and I find myself getting overwhelmed and worked up at times. I don’t schedule to go off work until another 7 weeks, what are your thoughts? TIA xxx

Once it gets to a certain stage of your pregnancy any pregnancy related illness will trigger the start of your maternity leave

At 36 weeks your work can trigger Mat leave, which might work for you but I wouldn't want to lose the time off on the other side.

Could you work from home or avoid travel at peak times - your employer should be prepared to make reasonable adjustments if feasible

I did. Got signed off and went back just before the 4 week trigger. Best thing as I have been struggling so much.

You can self certify for up to 7 days off work without a doctors note.
What does your risk assessment say about amended duties for your third trimester? I'm sure your work would rather have you on amended duties than not at all on sick leave.
If anxiety is an issue then you should also talk to your midwife to see if you need putting in touch with the peri-natal mental health team.
Hope you've managed some rest over this bank holiday weekend
