Did it go when the baby was born?

I'm in absolute agony and can barely walk, been like this for a week now, I'm 37 weeks.

I'm just so worried that the pain won't go once the baby is born.

I can't weight bear at all on my right leg, it's horrendous.

Just want to know if I can look forward to some relief when my baby arrives!

Hi, yes, I could barely walk from 30 weeks and yet didn't need crutches again as soon I gave birth. It's still worth seeing a physio postpartum as you will have lost a lot of strength and so it may take a little while before you are fully at pre pregnancy fitness but it will happen. Sorry you are going through this too but there really is light at the end of the tunnel.

flightless55 · 28/05/2023 18:06

I was on crutches from 34 weeks and the relief post birth was fantastic

So sorry you're in so much pain

snickersicecreampls · 28/05/2023 18:07

Thanks @log18 this is really reassuring. I think mentally I can get through the next few weeks if I know that it will go when baby arrives.

I was so excited to start my Mat leave and have fun with my toddler and this has just ruined me - I can't move!

Dr has prescribed codeine but I feel reluctant to take it

@flightless55 amazing to hear. Thank you x

Yes I did and to my surprise it went away immediately after giving birth. I had been struggling from week 33
Went into hospital on crutches worrying about labour and that I would still not be able to walk after having ds

snickersicecreampls · 28/05/2023 18:11

I could cry reading these @twoandcooplease

Doing tiny little things is a major task and I'm so sick of the pain :(

Awww @snickersicecreampls I feel for you!!
My advice is the codeine you've been prescribed and rest, you shouldn't suffer in pain. You're going to get so much relief when you've given birth and it's not too far away xxx

If you are worried about baby - I was taking dihydrocodeine with paracetamol my whole pregnancy for other pains and was reassured the entire time about ds being ok

GayPareeee · 28/05/2023 18:24

yes, took two people to get me onto the bed to give birth and walked away straight after, both times. It literally leaves with the baby

sexnotgenders · 28/05/2023 18:24

Get yourself to an osteopath (there's a list of ones that specialise in pregnancy on the pelvic partnership website). I'm 37 weeks now and like you, couldn't walk/weight bear as the pain was horrendous. Two sessions later and I'm up and mobile with minimal pain - essential as I have a very energetic toddler so all this talk of 'rest' is not an option! Honestly, it's been a life saver

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 28/05/2023 18:26

Yep. Went after baby was born

snickersicecreampls · 28/05/2023 18:44

Never thought I'd be actually excited to give birth but these responses are making me feel like I'm ready - I am so over this!

snickersicecreampls · 28/05/2023 18:44

@sexnotgenders I saw an osteopath and I actually felt much worse afterwards! Didn't offer any relief at all and now I'm nervous to go back!

I had a C-Section due to breech and honestly, despite barely being able to walk from week 28, I had no pain once the spinal wore off! (Other than of course the actual section part!)
Birth really is the miracle remedy for this!

sexnotgenders · 28/05/2023 21:17

@snickersicecreampls funnily enough, I felt a million times worst after my first session too, but the following one was like magic. No idea why, but I'm in such a better place. Had this pain with DD towards the end too, and it did clear up as soon as she was born, so even if you don't go back for more treatment, I promise there is an end point!!

LysHastighed · 28/05/2023 21:21

Yes, between that and the heartburn vanishing I felt amazing post-section.

Mossstitch · 28/05/2023 22:24

If it doesn't Google Don tigny sacro iliac dysfunction, he has exercises which help a lot👌

cocksstrideintheevening · 28/05/2023 22:25

Yes disappeared on delivery, the drugs were great. I was signed off at 21 weeks with DTs and had emcs at 31.

Armychefbethebest · 28/05/2023 22:29

I gave birth to my last child nearly 14 years ago, in most cases I think it goes . In my case no it hasn't I have bilateral sacroiliitis and need a joint fusion op soon I have everything crosses you pain will go I wouldn't wish it on anyone x

romdowa · 28/05/2023 22:32

I'm one of the rare cases where it didn't go. Its better than it was but 18 months on and my back still isn't right

MummaNBubba · 30/05/2023 21:59

I’m dreading this! I’m only 9 weeks but I’ve been seeing a physio for this for nearly a year, and so far I just have pain free days, dreading once my baby gets big enough to put pressure on it

Littlegoth · 30/05/2023 22:03

I was on crutches at 34 weeks (and heading that way again) and literally ran up the stairs when I got home after the birth. I felt light as a feather - and I’d had a c section.

it wasn’t completely gone, took about 6 months before I felt recovered, and had to be careful not to over do it at first.

moregarlic · 31/05/2023 09:46

OP, can you get some manual therapy for this?

I had some SI problems, a lot earlier in pregnancy than you, and about 4 rounds of manual therapy from a private osteopath totally sorted it out.

DataNotLore · 31/05/2023 09:53

It lessened but it's still there.

I take naproxen twice a day to deal with it.
