Induction at 39w 4d for IVF pregnancy

Hi all

I have a low risk pregnancy apart from the fact I’m 38 and baby was conceived through IVF. Consultant reccomends induction at 39w because of IVF conception. I asked if I could push it back to 39w 4d which they have agreed. I’m still concerned baby won’t be ready but on the other hand scared of stillbirth. What are other IVF mummy’s doing please?

Hi! I hope your birth went well, would
you mind sharing what you decided/what happened in the end?

Hi @Justrelax2022
Happy to share. I had four membrane sweeps and a ‘scheduled’ induction at 39w 4d but it kept being pushed back as there were emergencies. It was eventually realised that I had a hind water leak for 24 hours despite having been in the hospital overnight waiting for induction. I was then told I needed an induction immediately but there was no capacity at the hospital so I was transferred to another hospital. When I got there my baby’s heart rate was high so I was recommended to have an emergency cessarean. The experience was incredible, relaxed and controlled. In hindsight I would have asked for a planned c section.

Is your pregnancy also ivf? We go through so much with infertility and IVF. In my opinion, I was glad to not add birth trauma to my list of traumas!

Thanks so much @Bunniesandcreamteas i really appreciate hearing your experience. Yes it’s an IVF pregnancy after a difficult journey. I hoped to ‘reclaim’ some of the trauma by having a spontaneous vaginal birth but obviously am fully aware that things don’t go to plan. I can’t get answers from my hospital right now re their standard protocol with IVF babies, I have to wait until 36 weeks which for my organised brain is leaving things later than I’d have liked! I thought it best I read up on what others in a similar situation went through - so thanks for your response and I’m so pleased to hear that you had a relaxed, empowered birth!
