Brown discharge at 17 weeks

Currently 17 weeks pregnant. Sorry if TMI but when wiping, I noticed my discharge contained streaks of brown. I don’t feel any pain and am well in myself. I’ve been to the toilet since and it’s been fine.

Do I need to ring the EPU given it’s such a small amount and clearly old blood if anything?

Hi, I've had this a few occasions and I'm
15 weeks now. I called my midwife the first time and she couldn't have been less concerned. Just said no blood, no cramps is a good sign and to keep an eye on it. If it gets bad then to go to a&e

Definitely call your midwife. I had this at 28 weeks, went into the maternity unit where they were less concerned about the brown discharge, but when they measure the baby's heartbeat it was quite slow.

Long story short, everything was absolutely fine, heart rate returned to normal (mine's was probably through the roof though), I had a scan where it confirmed everything was ok (wee shite just wanted to worry me!) and he is now a strapping 18 year old.

My point is, it's best to get checked to put your own mind at rest, but I wouldn't worry too much. Sending you the best

Best to get checked, although it's probably nothing. I had the same around 18 weeks. Went to EPU. Not sure what caused it but it turned out I had a yeast infection so could have been that! Baby absolutely fine.

@Udford How did you get on?

Udford · 30/05/2023 11:02

I spoke to my community midwife. She said as long as there were no other symptoms (e.g back pain, tummy ache, no itching or burning etc) then they’re not overly concerned. I was told to keep an eye on it and if it happens again or worsens (becomes fresh red blood) to contact the hospital. Fingers crossed it doesn’t!

Brown blood in small volumes is fine, it can be old blood or an irritated cervix (have you had sex recently?) It's red blood you've got to worry about.

I'm sorry but this was the only symptom of my missed miscarraige. Same amount of weeks too. Dont mean to scare but you should always get checked out. Baby had passed 2 weeks previous too. Yes it could also be nothing but no way of knowing without getting checked out.

I had this a few times while pregnant, mostly the next day after having sex
