Re-using Moses basket mattress for 2nd child

I know the risks re SIDS and that it's advisable to replace mattresses between children, but do you know if the same applies if the mattress can be washed?
I was just about to chuck it out the Moses basket mattress, with the intention of buying new, but then saw on the label that it can be washed at 60 degrees. Financially, it's no issue to buy a new one but just seems like a waste if washing it will make it safe. I don't want to take any unnecessary risks though so just wondered if anyone had any insight?

We used the same next2me cot mattress for both the boys but for our second we bought a new mattress protector, all was fine. They're in them for such a short time anyway it doesn't make sense really to throw a perfectly good mattress out. Of course it would be different if buying second hand from someone else but you know where the mattress has been so will be fine Smile

I used the same for both my boys

I think if you've stored it in a dry place then it will be fine. The risk is if it's gone mouldy. I'm going to use the same next2me mattress and Moses basket mattress for my second baby. It's been stored in a room that's bone dry and I always had a mattress protector on it with DS so it never got dirty.

I always thought mattresses had to be bought new if you got a 2nd hand sleep space, but they were ok to be reused within the same household.

I used the same mattress that got passed to me from my friends kids and all was well x

Thanks for your replies everyone. I know there is less risk if the items have been from the same household but I guess my concern is that there is always an increased risk re-using a mattress for a second time round, even if used by siblings. I was hoping that perhaps the ability to wash the mattress might make that risk non-existent because maybe it was the equivalent of using a brand new mattress again.

I don't think it's THAT clear all the reasons why reusing a mattress increases risks of SIDs
Imagine some of it is to do with mattress being softer after being used so a wash wouldn't help that.

Saying that, I plan on using the next to me mattress again because it was used for such a short time and I think the risk is teeny tiny.
If it will make you worry then I'd go ahead and get a new one
